The Hostelz.com Review
Lodge Eleven is a clean, well-equipped hostel just two minutes' walk from the sandy beach, and ten minutes' walk into the centre of Paihia and the wharf, the base for a wide range of boat trips including the famous Cream Trip.
Each room has an en-suite and all bedding is provided. Downstairs is a well-equipped kitchen, and a lounge with games, books, and TV. As well as an indoor dining room, there is a covered outdoor dining area, which is great on a lovely day. This hostel is open to anyone but to avoid a nightly surcharge you need a YHA membership.
Also within walking distance from the hostel is the historic St. Paul's church, a range of bush walks, and canoes for hire on the beach. A good day tramp is to go through the bush-clad hills behind Paihia to Opua and return along the coastal walkway visiting several lovely little coves.

This is a nice comfortable lodge with a friendly owner/manager family in residence. The rooms are clean and have en-suite bathrooms (which can be annoying given that there is usually someone getting up early to go on a tour and the noise of the shower can wake you up). Some of the rooms are a bit small for the number of beds in them and there isn't a lot of room to open your backpack. The kitchen is small and the tv lounge is very cramped as well. There is a pleasant outdoor dining area. The hostel is relatively new, but is in a street next to several other hostels, some of which are brand new and have much better facilities. The hostel has a friendly relaxed atmosphere and is a lot quieter than some of the nearby hostels that have their own bars. It is a ten minute walk from the town's main pier and activity centre. The owners are happy to arrange any excursions for you. — Anonymous (2005-12-15)
