Hostelz.com's Review
Jazz on South Beach hostel offers a fun atmosphere for youth travelers to socialise and engage in all that South Beach has to offer.

The Location

Jazz Hostel is located on Collins Avenue and Third Street, in a quiet neighbourhood in South Beach. The bus does not pass on this street, but the local bus can be caught just one block up the street and the bus to downtown two blocks away. There is a small supermarket just one block over, as well as a pizza place, a few restaurants, and the beach. Just three blocks further south is a lovely boardwalk for evening strolls and watching passing boats and ships. Just steps from the shopping district of south beach and the sidewalk restaurants of Ocean Drive, you will not need to go far to find anything, including the nightlife.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Dorm rooms are four-, eight- and twelve-bed, and private rooms are also available. Key cards allow access to your room, which are all ensuite. Many of them carry hair dryers, and some have tubs. There are plenty of wall outlets for charging cell phones and laptops in the room, as well as lockers, although some of them are broken. The mattresses are pretty decent, but the ladders on many of the beds are broken and may prove more dangerous than useful. There is daily maid service in the rooms. Linens and towels are provided.

Common Spaces

There is a patio outside for alfresco dining and smoking, but this closes at 10 p.m., after which many people retire to the lobby/lounge area, where there is always a movie on or techno music blaring. There are a few computers that are pay-per-use, and keypad lockers in the lobby for storing other valuables. There is a communal kitchen area and a guest laundry also available. Most evenings there are fliers posted for outings to various clubs and night spots, but many of the in-house activities posted don't seem to take place. There is also pay-per-use luggage storage area, and a small book exchange.

The Jazz Hostel is a lively place to meet other backpackers, who are more than willing to engage in a chat and point out their country on the oversized world map on the kitchen wall. It's a good place to meet new friends from around the world. Most of the staff are friendly, although there are a few that are less approachable.

Summary

Overall, Jazz is one of the better hostels in South Beach. It is quite affordable and there are lots of tours and outings to keep you occupied when you are not at the beach soaking up the rays.

2   Oops If you look for a place just for sleeping it is good, but there are lots of problem with this crazy place. Internet is really slow and sometimes, you dont have access to it in your room. Using the computer or printing of hostel costs you, it is not free. 11-7:00 they luck fridge, no food and no use of kitchen, breakfast is 9-10 each day, no more no less. something like prison.  , age 26, Germany ()
5  I only planned to stay for five days in Miami but had such a great time i ended up staying for three weeks. I will be back as I had one of the most memorable times of my life there.  , Florida ()
4   Fu! This is a fun, sociable hostel where people go to get drunk and meet random strangers! The staff were friendly and fun, don't come here expecting to get a full nights sleep without being woken up! Shame i wasnt twenty-one while staying here, felt like i was missing out on some eventful nights! Only a block from the beach, which was awesome, not much to do on rainy days though unless you want to spend a lot of money on the tours.  , UK ()
1   Not recommended Would not recommend to anyone, dirty and unsafe, rude staff. Lack of storage room for your backpack.  ()
1   Disappointing I was here for three nights overall. Each night there were drunk strangers who entered the rooms and bothered everyone. No one seemed to care about this. A few of the daytime staff were very nice, but once night fell the place lost all discipline. I realize this was a beach hostel, but it was very dirty compared to many beach front hostels I have visited in the past. I wouldn't recommend this hostel, unless you plan on staying up drunk all night and passing out. My biggest complaint would be the lack of security as there was no place to lock your bags, which is needed in a drinking hostel.  , Canada ()
5   Amazing I only planned to stay for five days in Miami but had such a great time i ended up staying for three weeks. I will be back as I had one of the most memorable times of my life there.  , Scotland ()
4   Good if you want a party hostel this hostel was clean and the bedrooms were an ok size, not that most people stayed in them much, as it was raining for some of our trip most people stayed in the lobby and got drunk and mingled. with people coming in and out at all hours of the morning -- expect to be woken up at 4 a.m. with people slamming doors and switching on lights. it was a really good party atmosphere, but i wouldnt recommend this place if you want a nice, quiet holiday.  , british ()
3   So so The Jazz on South Beach is a mixed bag. The hostel is located in a quiet neighborhood. Unfortunately, this means the outside patio closes at 11 (and the inside dies down just thereafter). The place is clean and new looking. The most international part of the beach is located a short 2 blocks away (on 3rd), but a majority of the nightlife is 15-20 minute walk. Free wi-fi with a decent signal strength, although it did not always come in. There are a few organized activities, such as a sunday barbeque, club outings a few nights a week. On the downside, the prices fluctuated every night I stayed there (ranging from $24-34). There is also a $15 late checkout penalty and $5 lost key card charge. The most serious issue I had was with the staff, who were neither friendly nor helpful. They seemed to regard most of the backpackers as more of a nuisance than as guests. They also need some serious training on basic travelers questions, such as where can I catch a bus and where is a good pizza or sandwich place.  , USA ()
