A luxury mountain retreat, at the price of a small hostel. If you're looking for a relaxing weekend away from the hustle and bustle of city life, this is the place for you. Friendly people, friendly staff. The shared rooms are not overcrowded (I shared with three other people). Idealistic mountain views. Wake up and have a smoke on the hammock overlooking the countryside or wander down to the creek and valleys. Very relaxing and laid back, located away from the village and day trippers. Walking into Nimbin is fine but a hostel mini bus is run twice a day there and back (walking back is the hard part. To be honest you only need to go into Nimbin once a week to get food, drink, and bud (you can "do" Nimbin as a tourist in a day). Smoking is permitted anywhere outside on the hostel grounds (including the front decking) as it is a "safe" distance away from the local constabulary. This could be a reason to visit Nimbin alone. As I'm sure it is with everyone that visits this hostel, the thought -- however brief -- of going AWOL for a week or two flashes prominently across your mind.

Stayed in the Tipi and found it an unbelievable experience My Girlfriend and I stayed here about a year and a half ago. We met some awesome people and learned a lot about everything. We stayed in the tipi, which from what i can remember was very, very nice; the views were awesome; and the little hammocks were really special after a few joints. Loved it here.

A place for getting in touch with your soul inspired by the beautiful mountain views, lush gardens, and friendly charm of the place. It was great to be able to relax by the pool, dip in in the heat of the day and socialise around an outside log fire in the evenings. The facilities are clean, the showers have plenty of space and the owners are friendly and professional. This place is more than a hostel it is a lovely experience. Whatever your views on Nimbin as a village, Rox hostel is an away from it all experience that warmed my soul. That is why I have been back twice.

Mostly clean (unless everyone's still stoned from the night before and forgot to wash up!) and good facilities. But if you prefer to avoid "cigarette" smoke, be aware that people sit in the outdoor eating area smoking all day.
If you like something more basic, and more open in its layout, even more laid back, and with a non-smoking dining area, Rainbow Retreat would suit you better. But both places have a great atmosphere and you'll meet loads of people from around the world. But personally I preferred Rainbow Retreat.

Nimbin Rox is the kind of place that rich people would pay ridiculous amounts of money to be able to stay at. In spite of this, it's available to us, the not-so-rich backpackers. Its beautiful surroundings and relaxing atmosphere is not to be found in any other hostel. A visit here is not only recommended, it's obligatory.

The most awesome thunderstorms I have ever seen in my life - great owner - great atmosphere - clean and away from the s*** on the streets. Awesome.
