The Hostelz.com Review
Kina Backpackers is the kind of place that makes you feel so at home that you keep extending your stay because you still haven't seen everything and the hosts keep giving you more hints and insider information.
The Location
The hostel is located at the end of bus line No. 1 and up some long and steep stairs. When leaving, we found another bus, stopping right in front of the hostel, too, but this was the easy way to find it and at the same time you get introduced to the beautifully long and lonely beach at the foot of the hill within only a few minutes walking distance. The ocean view; the garden with trees, tables, and a hammock-chair; how the hostel blends in well with the family homes in the area -- it's an excellent first impression.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The dorms have neither lockers nor shelves and the one we lived in was occupied by some rather messy people who stayed there for a while (a week or so) and had their clothes and belongings spread out all over the floor. Still it is surprisingly clean. The bathrooms and toilets are located along a hallway, are spacious and well taken care of, and the showers have a comfortable water pressure.
Common Spaces
A cozy living room with books and a large TV, a spacious kitchen with large tables, and an outdoors seating area leave plenty of space to meet or not meet people. Smoking is permitted outside only. Guests are in their early- to mid-twenties with a few middled-aged long-stay exceptions, who blend in very well, too.
Summary
The hostel's own description, "It's your very own piece of paradise," is just right. A clean place, in a beautiful spot with a homey backpacker atmosphere, run by friendly and helpful people who understand and cater for a traveler's needs -- there is nothing else we could ask for.

I've got to give this hostel a massive gee! The place is not all that but the governor is one of your own. He may be a raving iron but don't let that put you off, he's the most helpful chap I've ever met. Me and Val spent a few days here to get away from the chaos of the East End, Hoxton to be precise. This lovely man drove us around this island and took us to a lovely ruby house where me and Val talked about me getting into the straight life. He booked us a fishing trip where we met a nice old fellow called Whitey, who was a bit of a nuisance but a real stand-up chap. we had two wonderful nights in this hostel and this muggy straight didn't even ask for his wedge from us. Very nice of him, but I don't know how he expects to put steam on the table carrying on like that. — Lennard McLean (2005-04-19)
