RD Guest House only has dorm rooms – 2 large rooms with 18 beds in each. The rooms were mixed so males and females all go in together. There were only Japanese and Korean guests staying here besides me. At first this felt funny but they were so friendly and made good room companions, joking and sharing stories. And generally their English was pretty good because they needed it every day for travelling. At night everyone congregated downstairs in the reception on the floor to play cards, talk and read books. There were unfortunately only books (lots of them) in Korean and Japanese to read. But there was a travel tip book in English, although the two larger ones were in Korean and Japanese.
RD has a Chinese management and is scrupulously clean. Asian travellers are also clean which is good because there are only 6 bathrooms to share among 32 people – make sure you get in quick before someone else does! There's also a laundry and a kitchen with a fridge.
The staff speak excellent English and can get you anywhere by bus and train, and they can also arrange visas for all nearby countries. They seemed to enjoy the company of everyone in the reception at night, joining in with the conversation. You are almost guaranteed that every Japanese or Korean traveller you see anywhere in Vientiane will be staying at RD. It would be perfect if you're Japanese or Korean, like their company or just want a cheap, clean place to stay that is centrally located. This is one of the friendliest places I've been in a long time and the clientele are primarily responsible.
