This place is predominantly visited by Japanese tourists and features in the Japanese Globetrotter guide. It can be hard to get a room after midday between December and February so plan to arrive early. A lot of Japanese travel during this time and they all come here.
As with most places frequented by Japanese tourists it's clean and hygienic and everyone is friendly and polite and you'll probably be invited to visit Japan! Even the dogs seem to be used to the Japanese visitors and can differentiate between nationalities. They actually will follow Japanese guests around and go up to their rooms for bits of food and lots of love. But whenever I passed they would wake from their sleepy dozes, sniff me and go back to sleep. Obviously Anglo-Saxons have not showered enough attention over the years on the canines at Thai Way.
The location of the guesthouse is right near the Chiang Mai gate and situated in a fairly non-touristy part of town. You may find the price of food slightly cheaper around here. Chiang Mai is full of canals and there's a big one with a park just across the road, a nice place for a picnic lunch or mornings and evenings. You can also find cheap internet cafes and restaurants and markets nearby. If you want to go to the real touristy areas they are about a 10 minute walk.
