The Hostelz.com Review
This budget hotel has just one dorm room at present and seems to attract travelling locals as well – not always a good sign but they are renovating a bit and desperate for custom at the moment so it could change later.

There are three bunk beds on the first floor overlooking the access lane leading to the hotel. It's a good location right on the main road (Lorong Chulia) leading through Chinatown and the traveller's hang out point but about 50m down a side road for peace and quiet.

The E+A is undergoing a huge facelift and the rooms are all being renovated and painted. They plan to develop an internet café downstairs eventually so that would definitely be a bonus. I didn't see any other hotels or hostels with their own internet (although there are plenty in the street). It's a bit noisy with all the renovations but this should stop soon and if you like escaping the main traveller's hangouts it would be ideal. I wouldn't be too happy about sharing a dorm room with local traveller's. Nothing against Malaysians but most places where they get local clientele can be rife with theft, etc.

We arrived here after viewing other poor dirty places in Penang and first look things seemed ok. However once we sat down in the room we noticed quite alot of flies and ants about on the bed. we checked the mattress to find that it was crawling with ants and other crawlies -- it was disgusting. We were just relieved we found this before staying the night. The only positive i can say was that they did refund our money. Do not stay here unless you like the idea of things crawling on you in the night!

We stayed here a couple of months ago. It was a good, clean place.

I stayed in this hostel just recently (last month) and the facelifting and rennovation is almost complete. One thing that sets this hotel apart from other backpacker/budget hostels is it's cleanliness, even aside from the rooms (which are kept clean and shiny). The bathroom is just a bit too small, but it is clean and has new fittings. I rate this hotel higher than other backpackers hotels in Chulia. The only problem is that at night, even with air conditioner on, you can hear the sounds of people outside your room, which can be disturbing if they are noisy guests! However, for the low price, this hotel is really a good bargain!!
