The Hostelz.com Review
Mission Beach Retreat has an excellent location, right in the centre of Mission Beach -- a small town in a rainforest area located about half way between Townsville and Cairns, in Queensland. From the hostel, you can walk to everything -- all shops, supermarket, restaurants and bars, and also the beach. The hostel offers a courtesy pick up at the bus station if required. Make sure to book in advance as the bus stop is a few miles away from Mission Beach.

They offer a free breakfast that is quite good. The accommodation is ok, if you don't mind having spiders in every corner of your room. The beds and mattresses are new and comfortable and there is air-conditioning in each room. The kitchen is clean and provides a full range of cooking equipment. In the colourful lounge you have a television with cable. There are good facilities -- a laundry, internet access, and bikes for rent. The hostel has also a small but pleasant swimming pool with a waterfall. The owners can arrange tours or visits you would like to do.

The atmosphere is very relaxed. The two owners, who are very young, are very nice and have managed to give to this hostel a touch of colour with nice paintings and decoration in the common rooms. The only thing that could be improved is the cleanliness, which is ok, but could be better.

Felt like home
The new owners are fantastic, the place is in a wonderful spot, very clean very chilled. Nothing is too much trouble. We were very impressed. Both of us had a parachute jump, what a blast. The trip to the reef was wonderful.

The staff was sour and not remotely helpful. We asked for a room for five people and they stuck us in a female dorm. When we got there and they realized that there were three guys, they essentially told us it was our fault that they now had to re-arrange people. Nobody said anything about the female dorm when I booked, though. The sheets smelled and most of the rooms were stagnant and hot. However, in the female dorm, there was air-conditioning and a bathroom in the room, which was nice.
