This hostel and café is new this year and pretty original for Georgetown (Penang). Downstairs is a tiled café with a DVD/music area to become a restaurant eventually, a fully equipped kitchen and laundry for use by guests, a snooker games room and massage area.
There's an Indian-Japanese element here with the mattresses just on the floor (no beds) and drapes hanging from the ceiling with soft multi coloured lights in the corners. It's a bit of a stepping stone thing to get to your bed! They play music over the loudspeakers, usually Andy Williams or something like Dean Martin. If you stay here you get discounts on the full body massage but there are other options for feet, neck and face. I liked the original touches but didn't feel overly comfortable. Might just be my reaction to the music!
The owner and the reception lady were pretty friendly and they had a few of their friends hanging around watching DVDs in the lounge. But I guess not many other travellers know of this place just yet. That's sure to change pretty soon as I think a lot of people will be attracted by the massage, the alternative aspects, the hygienic rooms and bathrooms and the cleansing teas they serve, sometimes complimentary!
