This place actually feels like a real home. It has some really nice touches. The rooftop area is one of them, it's kind of like a backyard patio at home in Australia but it's on the roof with wooden slabs with pot plants and sitting areas with a superb view over the rooftops of commercial Malacca to the historical centre. They were still finishing it off when I visited so there were no sitting areas but these are coming. The rooms also have personal touches with warm blue paint with yellow trims, a fish tank, the owner's grandmother's bed and old antique furniture from the family house. The guesthouse is also named after the owner's daughter Shirah.
There's a kitchen, common lounge with real furnishings and wooden carvings on the walls not just the usual cheap plastic curtains and couch covers. It's a great place to relax and watch TV or play some indoor games. They also do a few things that other guesthouses don't like home cooked meals, rent mountain bikes and batik workshops. There's only one dorm room with three beds which are less used than the private rooms. So if you're looking for friendly company you might not find it in your own room as dorms in Malaysia tend to be the last rooms filled.
