The Hostelz.com Review
"Uncle" runs this place and the Moon Lodge across the road, but this guesthouse started a bit later on and has being going about 12 years. If you're lucky you'll get him at the front desk, a really friendly Tamil Indian gentleman who loves Australians because his son married one and moved to the Gold Coast. If you're Australian it's worth mentioning your nationality! There's an excellent book exchange and library in the reception area and a fridge that's full of cold drinks which are great for the humid sultry conditions of Kuala Lumpur. Uncle gave me two free because I'm Australian!
The highlight of this place is the rooftop deck or "beer garden". There's a huge TV up here for night time viewing, a flower garden, swing chairs, tables and plenty of room to relax. And you can see most of the city sights -- the Menara tower, Petronas towers etc. There's also a tiny kitchen for guests that want to try their hand at some of the local specialties they've seen in the market or are hankering to turn a domestic hand. They don't mind if you hang your laundry out here either.

Happy we stayed here As the price would indicate, this is not the Ritz Carlton -- however, it is clean, nice, and the staff is very friendly, too. The decor is quirky and eclectic & the covered rooftop is cool. We didn't have the social experience some talked about & in the 3 nights we stayed there was no BBQ or anything like that. Still, it was well worth the price paid for our private double -- in fact, we had originally booked for 2 nights, but decided to extend for the third. We would definitely recommend it. — Tif & Ethan , USA (2010-03-13)

Great value, great location, and great staff. Is a backpackers place so don't expect too much but the rooms/toilets are clean and there is a rooftop area for meeting fellow travelers. When we stayed there they put on a free buffet for everyone and made sure we all had a good time. I found that in this guesthouse the staff will do anything to make you feel welcome and comfortable and this is amongst other reasons why we returned for a second helping. — sam , Scotland (2007-04-24)

The location was perfect. The room was tidy and clean. The best thing was the staff were very friendly. I really enjoyed BBQ party at the rooftop garden. — Ayano Miyamoto (2006-11-18)

This place was superb. There were the most friendliest staff and the best rooms i had ever stayed in. The owner had just upgraded the place, and all stated above weren't true. We had a great barbecue party at the roof top when we were there. — Chermaine (2006-08-18)

I stayed 30 days in Kuala Lumpur in 3 different hostels, and Backpackers Home despite being the cheapest of them all it was by far the best. The room was clean and the staff actually keeps the place neat and tidy. The best is the roof-top bar and the panoramic terrace, they rock! You even have a TV up there and they organize free BBQ's on weekly basis. To top it off, they gave me a precious help in deciding what places were best to visit and how to get there.
It is difficult to find decent accommodation in Kuala Lumpur when you are in a traveller budget like I am, so I guess if you don't want to gamble this is an excellent option. — KIM VERVLIET (2006-08-14)
This is the worst hostel I've ever stayed in. It was just filthy. The rooms looked like they hadn't been cleaned in weeks. There were hairs on my bed and doubtful stains on the walls. All the sanitary facilities were leaking and there were cockroaches everywhere. The only good thing was the location. — Bongo (2005-11-07)
