The Hostelz.com Review
The owners claim this was the first hostel opened in Kuala Lumpur some 20 years ago. Fortunately the beds and furniture don't look 20 years old but the place does have character. There's definitely a slightly alternative aspect with incense heavy in the air and soothing pictures of greeny-blue landscapes as you walk up the steep flight of stairs from the street level. There's a real traveller's element with postcards on the walls of people who miss the atmosphere of the Moon Lodge. There's a kitchen where you can cook but it's pretty basic as is the free breakfast which is toast and spreads, tea and coffee. Right up on the rooftop there's also a place where they used to have a bar that most people now just use for relaxing in the evening or hanging laundry.
The rooms are a mixture of bunk beds and singles and doubles. They don't provide any linen just plastic bed covers that are supposed to be more hygienic. Pretty chilled out choice for KL. But the other traveller's staying here were not necessarily alternative and there was a mix of people but mainly Europeans and couples.

Travellers Moon Lodge was an excellent option while staying in Kuala Lumpur. The location is right in the heart of the city; The rooms are clean and safe; There's a lovely terrace where I got to spend my evenings with fellow travelers; The common room has a satellite Tv and there is also a fully equiped Kitchen at your disposition.
But the best of all is the friendliness and assistance they provide you. They helped me organize the trip and gave me tips that saved me a lot of time and money. I recomend this place to anyone, specially those who come to Malaysia for the first time — DANIEL MARCELO (2006-08-14)

This is the best hostel in Malaysia. Which you can get in cheaper price. there is nice bed with fan or a/c. Free breakfast, nice sitting area with fresh air, and television. — nirakar rimal (2006-06-19)
I stayed at this hostel in March 2006 and the first room we got was full of bedbugs. They gave us another room, which was nice of them but in the middle of the night the bedbugs were crawling all over us. We left at six in the morning and later we ran into the owner of the hostel again. He was yelling at us and telling me that there are 'no f***ing bedbugs' in his hostel. He was very aggresive and angry. Well, the two hundred bedbugbites on my arms say enough. — Laura (2006-03-21)

Helpful, chatty, and international. (Swiss, Germans, Nepaleses, Japanese, Chinese, Australians were all there when I stayed. Cool.) There are a couple of nice common areas to chat in, and nice sunny windows in the dorms. I've been here for a half a week, and plan to stay for a whole week.
I have had no problems with the rooms, (no bedbugs, like one of the posts said). But it's really the friendliness of the staff here that make it better than average.
Incidentally, the listing for this place is "Jalan Silang." There IS no Jalan Silang; the street has changed its name to Jalan Tan Siew Sin. — Dan (2005-11-23)

I have been travelling ever since last October and have been to Kuala Lumpur several times, as this is my point of transit when I travel within Southeast Asia. I have stayed in few of the hostels around Chinatown and others and lately in Travelers Moon Lodge, not once but twice. Believe me, guys, this place has a real character and is a very nice place to chill out. The guys who are managing the place are very informative and friendly. I never encountered any bedbug problem and if I had I would not have stayed there twice. I will definitely recommend this place to other backpackers and travelers, and I definitely will come back and stay here the next time I am in KL. CHEERS to the guys at TML! And thanks for the wonderful time. — Abraham (2005-08-30)

I'm German/English and I absolutely love Malaysia. And one of my best moments in Malaysia was staying in Traveller's Moon Lodge. The people are amazing. They've got great PR skills! I met a lot of my fellow Europeans as well. The place is so cozy and welcoming. About the bedbugs — I don't understand it because when I was there — (a month ago) it was perfect. There were clean sheets and they look new. I think they had a makeover. According to the owner they previously occupied more floors — now they have about 15 rooms and 10 dorm beds, so I guess it's easier to manage! I know I had a great experience. Bravo Traveller's Moon Lodge! Thanks for making my experience in Malaysia a memorable one! — Emma Decker (2005-08-25)
The price is cheap, and the location is excellent, but this guesthouse is full of bedbugs. If you want to get sick it's up to you. Otherwise the staff are friendly. — Huanzhen (2005-02-13)
