The Hostelz.com Review
There's something nice about being handed the front door key and allowed to come and go when you please. It feels a bit like you own house. The Traveller's Lodge has a 24 hour reception and video camera surveillance so be assured it's safe as houses. The reception area is bare but friendly and guests have access to 24 hour DVD movies on the television and internet if you bore of the activity outside in the Chinatown markets (unlikely).

The rooms are all fairly spartan but clean with double bunk beds in the rooms and either a fan or air conditioning. It's set on a street just out of the main hub of Chinatown so don't worry about not being able to sleep at night. The Traveller's Lodge has all the usual hostel perks like internet, travel transfers, sightseeing tours, van hire, refreshments for sale and book exchanges. Obviously it changes from day to day but I found in the middle of the day even people came back here to hang out in the lounge for a bit to escape the heat outside and it's centrally enough located that you could come back for a bit of a siesta or a break from the city action.

June 2005
We stayed at this guesthouse June 14 till 16. First we had a room on the second floor but there was this weird Chinese old man smoking all night. When we complained (smoking was not allowed at all!!) they wouldn't do anything about it. At last we were offered a transfer in the middle of the night to the third floor. They were not friendly. They didn't offer anything for the inconvenience — never said sorry. It was expensive, and not very clean. I we will not stay here again.

We stayed here in March 2004 for five nights. It's an okay hostel with basic rooms. It has a friendly, helpful staff and an excellent location. It gets loud music in the small hours from the bar downstairs. The staff can organize really good, cheap trips — we went to see the fireflies in the national park one evening, which was really cool!
