The Hostelz.com Review
Thor Town International Hostel is the private residence of a married couple with one child. They live in the back of the house separate from the hostel area. This hostel is small and quiet.
The Location
This hostel is conveniently located in Port Angeles. There is a bus stop for public transit right in front of the hostel. There is limited street parking for guests with a vehicle. It's easy to reach the ferry dock going to Victoria.
Rooms and Bathrooms
There are three rooms with beds. One of the rooms is private with a full-size bed. There is a men's dorm room and women's dorm room. Each dorm room contains single beds and a set of bunk beds. Each room has three to four beds. There is one bathroom upstairs with a shower, which works well.
Common Spaces
There is a shared kitchen and dining area downstairs. A laundry room is available for a nominal fee. The kitchen is small but sufficient with necessary dishes and cookware. There is a large, family-size refrigerator/freezer for guest use. The hostel has one computer with internet access for a fee. We were able to use free wireless with our laptop. The building is nonsmoking.
Be advised, the hostel accepts only cash and check -- they do not accept credit cards (we had to find an ATM machine to withdraw cash).

The guy who said the house is dirty is right. The owners are very friendly and the private room for $30 is a sweet deal. The dorm is $15 and obviously not as nice. I opted for the private. The location is great and they have a free computer with internet and free tea and staples. The kitchen was actually the cleanest part of the hostel. If they hired a housekeeper, I would easily give this place four stars. The price for the private is the same for couples, so if there's two of you it's an even better deal. They're currently doing renovations so the front and backyard are very cluttered. They have chickens and ducks as pets and a brilliant five-year-old daughter. It's more like a bed and breakfast, without the breakfast, cost, or cleanliness than a regular hostel. — Josh , USA (2007-04-19)

I stayed here for about a week recently. It's a nice place to explore the park from -- if you don't have a car, you can take public transportation from Port Angeles (you can bring your bike on the bus). It's kind of like staying at someone's house, and it was clean and cozy. The family is friendly, and they live in a separate building now. The owners were very helpful. The only downside is it's near two busy roads, so if you're sensitive to noise you might have trouble sleeping. (I had earplugs and slept fine.) The area is worth exploring, and I met some cool fellow travelers here. — AJ (2007-03-12)
Yes, it was cheap but it was filthy. The carpet was seventies orange shag and probably hadn't been cleaned since then. I wasn't quite sure if I was cleaner before or after my shower. Gross. — Traveler (2006-11-06)

Nice family owned (and run) place off the regular tourist track -- no big groups of post-school tourists! You get genuine travelers here with interesting stories and a respectful attitude. It's by far the cheapest place to stay in the area and is clean, comfortable, and friendly. The communal area/living room is cozy and has an interestingly stocked book cabinet. — Oliver & Dominique (2006-09-14)

A funky hippie-shack -- come without expectations and you'll have a good stay. A cheap and convenient crash pad if you've missed your ferry to Victoria. — quingold (2006-04-05)
Yeah, I stayed there for a weekend last summer. The rooms were nice and they had free Internet. But it's not really a hostel; it's owned by a middle-aged guy and his young wife and small daughter who live on the first floor. The dorms are upstairs. It's kind of like staying with weird cousins who charge you rent. The guy is a retired engineer, so he must have money. I didn't really get it. They don't want people staying for more than a day or two. Anyway, it's a short bus ride to Port Townsend, where there's an actual HI hostel. — Sam (2005-05-28)
Yes, this is not really so much a hostel as it is someone's house, and there's a very good chance they will not actually want you there much. They expressed that they don't want people there during the day. It's kind of like living with a small family who is generally friendly and nice, but doesn't really want you around much. — Anonymous D (2005-03-05)

This hostel was incredibly accommodating, and the owners are wonderful people!! They made us feel very much at home. — Vicki (2004-12-29)
This is actually someone's house, not a regular hostel. It's also not very clean. Be forewarned. — Anonymous (2004-09-27)

I had a good time. The bed and the house were comfortable. There is free Internet, and it's a good deal for $12. — Anonymous (2004-08-01)
