Beautiful i would like to thanks how they treat us this summer. We felt so right in their home -- it's a pretty and comfortable place. My best favourites places that I been, can't win this one. — alex vilajosana , calonia (2010-01-18)

A true way to experience the Alaskan wilderness! Excellent! Joy and Steve Hobbs have transformed a rugged homestead into a beautiful, permanent lifestyle. They have private cabins secluded from their home, but close by. They have transformed a wild and rustic, out-of-the way, piece of land into a wonderful home, greenhouse, and hostel accommodations. Joy fixes healthy and out-of-this-world, home-made breakfasts for their guests. Steve hunts, fishes, and traps for a living and knows the land very well, so if you want an outdoor experience, this is the place! Joy transforms the tanned hides and fur into warm, arctic hats for people residing in the cold, arctic circle. They have a cottage industry that works. They welcome you with all they have to offer! — Connie , USA (2009-02-22)

For those who come to Alaska to see it for its true natural beauty this is the place for you. This place is a great place to retreat to any day! It is an opportunity to investigate a simpler style of living, one filled with old style tasks like fetching and warming water for a shower, sitting by a warm stove, and playing cards by the light of a kerosene lamp. The hostel offers a spectacular view of an open clearing (great for spotting wildlife) and a mountain peeking through a forest in the distance. This place is well worth the drive and offers a convenient place to stay in the Wrangell St. Elias Preserve. There are easily accessible hikes, and also great canoeing in the area. — Sophie (2005-01-06)

The owners are very personable. The hostel requires a small hike to get to, but that was exactly what I wanted. The facility is a traditional Alaskan-style log cabin, with beautiful burl architecture and lots of wood. Skins also adorn the walls. There is no electricity, but there is a gas stove and light, and the owners had a roaring fire in the wood-burning oven with a large pot of hot water waiting for us when we arrived. There is also no running water, but an outhouse and gravity shower are available. — Cynthia (2004-09-23)
