HI - Hirosaki - Hirosaki YH Hostel

The Hirosaki Youth hostel is a little hard to find, as it it's tucked into the back of a residential driveway off the street. Look for the sign on the street that points you toward it. It is located only a block or two from the Hirosaki Tourist Center and the old castle grounds, which makes for a convenient base.

It's a very clean and well-run hostel. The rooms are air-conditioned/heated and have relatively comfortable beds. There is a nice, large common area by the entrance that is a pleasant place to relax and socialize at any time of the day. There is also a fresh water cooler with lots of cups for use at any time. The toilet facilities are ok, but the only sit-toilet in the men's WC is quite cramped.

The hostel observes a twelve o'clock curfew, and access to the shower is limited to five hours at night and two hours in the morning, so make sure to take note of the times on arrival. The communal meals are excellent, especially the large buffet-style breakfast, which is served early but worth waking up in time for. The hostel also rents out bikes for 300 yen a day. Hirosaki is a nice town to visit and this hostel is definitely recommended.
