The place should be appreciated for what it is. It is kind of run down but the tubs are cool and the spring water has no smell, which is always a plus. It is kind of a hippie place, so you can expect what kind of company to have. I wouldn't want to stay there, but it is a fun and unique cultural experience to visit for part of a day. $7.50 may be a little steep for a soak. I only go there when I have been in Southern Utah and am driving through the area. The hostel atmosphere deserves about one star.

It seems interesting to me that because this place it not what people call up to par as far as repairs and fixtures or accommodations that they are quick to judge. Has anyone ever really talked to, as you folks call "the man that doesn't answer the phone"? Have you ever found out ehy perhaps he keeps the place the way it is? I find it calm and collecting in the sense that life is much more natural, as the hot springs relate through experiencing the experience. You feel as if you were home, and that someone incredible is opening that wonderful occurrence in Mother Nature for you to experience. He dedicates all his time (twenty-four hours a day) and talent (glass blowing, beadwork, bringing music together) all for you. Wish everyone could focus on the beauty of such a place and person. I know he has forever touched me in his dealings and operations of such a mystic, wonder.

I have been to Mystic plenty of times. I believe Mike closed it up, because his phone is disconnected. I enjoyed Mystic the first few times, but saw it going downhill fast. I know people that have offered labor for free camping, but nothing seems to have gotten done. It seems like the mangement's priorities got turned around. I remember shows with lots of people, but in August 2005 I was the only paid admission to one show, and this past April there were two of us. He had more cameramen than paid admission. I really can't believe Mike charged us for that, but he is more capitalist than a cool hippie. The only good thing that came out of staying at Mystic were the people we met camping there, some we still stay in contact with. Repairs are badly needed everywhere.

Whoever wrote that beaming 5-star commentary must be dreaming. I went to high school in Monroe for 8 months (my parents travelled. The hot springs is not far from the old high school. The whole place is run down and I would not recommend it, or for that matter, the town itself. Insular, provincial with little to do best describes this place. Watch out for the cops, particulary if you look "different", or you are a person of color. The best part about Monroe was leaving. Oh, and be careful while driving on Utah highways because the state patrol are best described as ravenous.

We stayed here in April 2005. We loved the laid-back atmosphere. It was a great place to relax and really be away from it all. We stayed in the pioneer cabin and loved the hot springs. This place is kind of crazy with all the hippie stuff, so it is not for everyone. :)

I stayed at Mystic for one night in August 2004. It is essentially an old hot springs resort in a small town. It really isn't a hostel, though. The owner has been collecting old pioneer-era cabins and fixing them up. I stayed at one - I believe it was about $35 or $40 -but you can also camp. The hot springs are great and locals use them, too. Despite the fact this guy has a lot of acreage, it is an easy walk to the main street. I wouldn't go out of my way, but if you're going through Utah this is a great place to kill a few days.

I live in Monroe, and as a resident I find this place very deceiving. This place is known throughout Monroe as a drug-infested place with hippies. This is false advertising. It's very dirty and looks like a rundown trailer park. The people who run the place are rude and gross. Go away, Mike, and take your trailer trash.

In 2001, when I wanted to stay at this hostel, I was told by 'he who answered the phone' that it had been closed for a long time. I am surprised to still see it on a list. Best check before you head out that way.
