The Hostelz.com Review
If you want to stay and sleep in a château then HI - Pointe a la Garde Hostel - Auberge du Chateau Bahia is the place to be. The place was built in the seventies and has been enlarged a few times since then. It is only open in the summer months and sleeps in about fifty people.

The Location

The hostel is situated at Pointe-à-la-Garde, ten kilometers north of Pointe-à-la-Croix and the border to New Brunswick. There is an extra house for the dorms, which is direct at the Route 132, while the château with the private and double rooms is five hundred meters uphill in the woods.

There are no bars, supermarkets, shops, or banks around, so do all your shopping before you come. Just outside the château you have a couple of walking trails and when you climb up the hill to the observation tower you will have a beautiful view over the bay and the surrounding area. The HI does have beach access but there is hardly any beach at high tide.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms, the kitchen, and the bathrooms are clean and tidy but the house for budget accommodation is old and rundown (they are building a second castle where the budget accommodation will take place when it is finished). The dorms come with free bedding and are huge. Security seems to be good with a lock for the door to the hostel but no locks for the dorms.

Common Spaces

There is a common area for relaxing with a couch, chairs, a table, and a TV. There are free games, a bookshelf, and a huge sitting area where all the guests (as well the one from the château) have their free breakfast (pancakes, tea, coffee, milk) in the morning. The kitchen is well equipped and you can use all the ingredients stored there. There is no computer and no wireless in the house with the dorms, but you can go up to the château to use the internet (there is a charge for this). There is an outside sitting area with a BBQ in the back of the house and the château offers dinner for a reasonable price.

Summary

This hostel is a good for a stopover to explore the area. It is clean, tidy, and secure. You can have the experience of sleeping in a "new" château or even get married in the place.

5  Very nice stay We have been to this place 3 times and every visit is very enjoyable. The atmosphere is very friendly, the chateau is like a fairy tale, very comfortable and clean. In the evening we ate in the banquet hall, fantastic food and nice conversation with the other guests. Breakfast is always very nice. We highly recommend this place. One of the best addresses in Quebec.  , France ()
5  Spending a night LIKE GOD IN QUEBEC I've been there in late August/beginning September 2009. Wanted to stay there first only one night, arrived in total darkness, but when I saw the castles' buildings in the morning I was completely overwhelmed!!!! I immediately decided to stay longer! It really is a children's dream that became true there! We stayed in huge suite at the top of a tower with a fantastic view over the indian summer coloured trees and the whole Baie des Chaleurs from the balcony. Our room was furnished in an extravagant way, huge double bed and enough space to to breathe deeply. Bathroom & shower in a perfect condition. Good indoor temperature even if it's hot outside because almost everything in this castle is made of wood. (but there are fire escape stairs behind the castle that lead to every room so I really felt secure in spite of this). And the very best of all is the daily dinner in the banquet hall of the castle: Here cooks the owner himself and he is a fantastic chef! Most of all I remember his Honey Ham dinner. He cooks complete three-course menus with entrée (starter), main dish and dessert. Nice communicative atmosphere, you will meet people from all over the world there! Summarized: We staid there four nights, were completely satisfied with everything and we will return for sure!  , Germany ()
1  A private room is maybe nice, a dorm is not! I stayed in this hostel for just one night on my way towards New Brunswick. On all the leaflets and on the website they make advertisements with the castle. If you book a private room you actually are in the castle and I can not judge about how that is. If you book a dorm bed you are stuck in a very old run-down building five hundred meters away from the castle. I stayed in the dorm (there is only one dorm) so my rating and comments go about that and not about the private rooms. The dorm is very very old with bad beds only two showers and a toilet (they were clean so that was good). In the evening they offer candlelight dinner in the castle. I have had dinners in more hostels which is a nice way to get in touch with other people. Most of the times you just pay for the price of the food which is often 8 to 10 CAD. Here I had to pay 18 CAD so I was really expecting something luxury. Well that was a misunderstanding, it is really a way for them to make a lot of money. The food was not good, it were two courses and you did not even get coffee afterward. In every restaurant I would have eaten better for that money. It really felt like they had stolen money from me, first the disappointment about the dorm, then the bad food. I would not recommend this place to anyone, it is in the middle of nowhere and not nice!  , Netherlands ()
