The Hostelz.com Review
The Kelowna International Hostel is an upbeat fun hostel to stay at. The hostel itself is located on Pandosy street, within walking distance to downtown Kelowna, the waterfront, a grocery store, and the night life. The city bus stops right in front of the hostel.
The hostel is a large house in a residential area of town. They have a large deck with two barbecues for your use. Almost every night there is an activity for hostel guests. We came on a Monday and enjoyed pasta night. A staff member went around and asked everyone if they wanted pasta. They then cooked enough for everyone. They also had movie night the next night with free popcorn! We all sat in the comfy common room and watched videos. The staff made sure that there was lots of popcorn. The common room has a fireplace, which would be nice to snuggle up with a fire and watch a movie on cold winter night. They have a free desert night, birthday night, and others as well. You are guaranteed to get to know your fellow hostellers if you take part in these fun evening activities. The hostel staff will also bake you a cake if you have your birthday during your stay at the hostel!
The murals around the hostel are amazing! The kitchen is very well stocked. They even have bakeware for baking goodies. All the cabinets are labeled with their funky murals on the cabinets. The fridge is a cooler like they have in the stores, so there is never a lack of space in the fridge.
Kelowna is well known for their orchards. Many of the hostelers that were there when we went in September, had gotten jobs at the orchards as apple pickers. If you are looking to make some extra cash while you are at the hostel in the fall be sure to check the board by the office.
The staff will take messages on the payphone that accepts incoming calls. There is affordable internet access on the hostel's internet station. They charge $1/half hour. They also have laundry and they will sell you laundry soap
.
The hostel is well set up and the staff are very knowledgeable and they make your stay enjoyable. By the way, make sure you walk down Pandosy Street to Hector's Authentic Mexican Restaurant for the BEST mexican food ever!

Amazing Set-Up, Comfortable Room Without sounding like a weirdo, I do think that my enjoyment of the hostel was diminished by the fact that a large portion of the residents where long-time residents over summering to catch some "Powdah." These cool cats were busy reliving the showy, alpha-male/showy female dream and were stagnating. The few real travelers made the place. No knock against them, but a hostel is a place where travelers can find companions to explore with, not a place to be trapped in the same old human dynamic. — Roli , Canada (2009-06-14)

This is the best hostel I ever stayed at. We were planning to stay just a couple of days, but after months of travelling this was the first place where we felt at home. So we ended up staying a month and we returned a couple of times. The staff is really friendly and helpfull, just like Crystal, the owner. There is free breakfast, and a lot of parties. There are private rooms and dorms. The hostel is clean and not far from the center. To us, this was not a hostel, but a home. Though it is not a HI hostel, you get a discount with a HI membership card. — Roel (2006-02-13)

I stayed here for 1 month, and loved it so much I asked for a job. That led to 1 year of amazing times, including meeting hundreds of friendly world travellers of all ages and groups. Make sure and meet the owner, Crystal, for a sincere and friendly welcome to Kelowna. It's been over 3 years since I left the hostel, but those memories are still burning bright in my mind, and those friends are still the closest I've made. The Kelowna International Hostel is non-commercial, non-franchise / chain hostel - you will feel like you're staying in a friend's home. They have weekly parties for all guests, and are continually coming up with fun activities for everyone to do. Highly, highly recommended. — Spence (2005-12-06)

I liked it. I've actually stayed here twice. It's out of town but near the beach. The hostel had a cool keg party going on when I arrived, and it was fun just chilling on the veranda. Dorms were nice and clean, too. The common room is ripe for socializing and everyone seems to watch movies in the evening. I would stay here again. — Anonymous (2005-02-07)

Great hostel to stay at! There are amazing murals all over the walls! Stay here if you want to be close to the nightclubs, downtown, and the waterfront. The BEST mexican food EVER can be found within walking distance of the hostel at Hector's Authentic Mexican Restaurant--about 6 blocks down Pandosy Street. — Christie (2004-09-12)
