In need of attention
It's a huge rambling old nunnery and it's gone to seed a bit. The room was reasonably clean, but the kitchen was infested with flies. The security is over the top. No soap or hand towels in the bathrooms (no hand-washing facilities at all in one bathroom). "Games room" and "TV room" are in strange-smelling portacabins out the back. It's got charm and character in abundance and with a little attention it could be a great hostel but it falls down on too many of the little things.

Great fun
New Zealand is great fun and the flying nun was. This place goes off.

It would have been enjoyable if it hadn't been for these 2 cousins from Belo Horizonte smoking pot outside, I think their names were *Tony and Alex (right......) - it just really put me off! Other than that, the lady at the office was really helpful but my bed was abit hard. Gisborne is a nice little place to visit though. *Disclaimer: names have deliberately been changed to avoid any legal complications - you boys know who you are lol

Very relaxed, slightly odd setting. Used to be the abode of Dame Kiri Te Kanawa (excuse any mistake), the NZ opera singer. The manager Chrishla (again 'scuse) is marvelous and will accommodate and help in any difficulty. Wonderful expanse of good empty surfing beaches nearby. Well recommended.
