The Hostelz.com Review
Montreux Youth Hostel is a spacious, clean and friendly SYHA-affiliated hostel located in a relaxed and nice southern part of Montreux (Montreux-Territet), 20 meters from the lake shore. The hostel has been efficiently run for more than 10 years by Walter and Christine Pfister.
The dorm rooms have two to eight beds each. There are two 4-bed rooms on the first floor accessible for wheelschairs. Showers on each floor are free, bathrooms and rooms are clean and comfortable.
The hostel is located in the old laundry building of the Austrian empress. The building has been renovated 10 years ago and since then it is a showcase of various design styles. The building itself is decorated with yellow and violet parts. The lobby and common room have been done in the village style. The hall leading to the dining room and dining room itself show homage to the Montreux jazz festival and display an impressive collection of jazz posters from the festival and photos of jazzmen. In contrast to the Bohemian ground floor, three floors with dorms are designed in more sober "olympic games" style. Each room has its own large sport symbol and a (tiny!) number in the lower left corner. At the first time you may get a bit frustrated trying to find your room--you look for a dorm door with a number, but see only halls for sport games, from hockey and tennis to volleyball.
At the reception you can buy food and souvenirs. Internet access is through the web terminal in the entrance hall (12 CHF/hour).
The hostel is located 20 meters from the lake and 10 meters from the railway (passing at the height of the 2nd floor). Shut windows normally filter out the noise. However, if you are a light sleeper, you will have the possibility to get a closer acquaintance with the timetable of the fast and reliable Swiss railroads.
