The Hostelz.com Review
HI - Lausanne - Jeunotel Hostel is so far away from the train station and the port. There is no nearby supermarket. You must take a bus in order to go there, which takes about fifteen minutes or more. You better buy your food before arrival.

The Location

This hostel is very far away from the train station. First, you need to take the bus from the train station to Ouchy and then cross the road to take another bus to “Bois de Vaux.” It takes time, as the bus schedule is not frequent during morning and night time. Then you need to walk further to the hostel. If you plan to take a boat trip during your stay, it’s not too bad as you only need to take one bus to go there.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The room is not decorated enough, as the wall is just raw concrete with an irregular surface. You really can’t treat it as clean although you don’t see any particular dirt (it's easy to hide in the surface). Some of the rooms on the ground floor lack privacy and are noisy because they are immediately next to the park with tables and chairs. People chat, eat, and drink there. If you open the window or curtains, they will see clearly your room.

The washroom is dirty. If two people take a shower at the same time, the dirty water will flow together. We took showers earlier than others to avoid this.

Common Spaces

There is an abundant sitting area. The place for eating breakfast is big too. If you have to check out in the morning, you can just bring your entire luggage with you in order to save time.

Summary

This hostel is far below our expectation. Should we ever have a chance to visit Switzerland again, we will not choose this hostel.

This hostel isn't in an ideal location. It can be reached by taking the Metro from the station or the centre of the town to Ouchy (just a few minutes away) then getting a Number 2 bus to Bois-de-Vaux. Thankfully this is Switzerland so public transport is really good, the buses and metro run between around 5am and midnight. The décor does have a feel of ‘concrete bunker’ about it with bare concrete and a hint of wood and steel. Looking past the minimalist looks this does of course mean you have a modern purpose built hostel. The reception area is a spacious room with lounge area, vending machines and games. Various accommodation is available from en-suite rooms to dormitories There are plenty of toilets and washrooms, laundry facilities are also available as well as a restaurant that serves a buffet breakfast.

Really friendly, helpful staff, and the location's definitely decent, and there's a pretty social atmosphere. The doors are really loud, though, so I was up at 6:30 every morning. Small lockers, and no breakfast... and the internet's pretty expensive.
