Sir Toby's Hostel is an impressive hostel not only in its nostalgic décor -- they recycle and reuse old furniture, turning out-dated sewing machines into desks -- but also strives to be green, which includes temperature controls, separating garbage, and not ironing the bed sheets, while managing to keep everything immaculate and cheerful.
Location
Sir Toby is two tram stops from the Holesovice train station, which is not in the downtown tourist area, but there are some great restaurants and supermarkets nearby. It is easy to find and is conveniently near to the tram station to go downtown.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The hostel is located in a traditional building, which is very spacious and bright. Rooms are equipped with keys and doors within doors. Instead of a room number, each room has its own name like "Starry Sky" or "Marionette." There is an elevator but you still need to walk a short staircase to your room. The bathroom is spacious, with perfect showers and hot water. Smokers can puff in the balcony of each floor.
Common Spaces
A huge and clean well-equipped kitchen with free tea bags is available. There is a pleasant outdoor garden with chairs and tables made from granny's sewing machines. Computers and the sumptuous buffet breakfast are not free but are available at an affordable price. There's also a pub at the basement where home-cooked dinner is served and is a great place to meet people. It plays loud music at night but it's in the basement so it didn't bother us. A luggage room with an electronic security door is available behind the bar. You have to bring your own lock, though.

This hostel has a lot to offer. And when you check in, look out for the cute little dog that looks like a gray and black mop running around!

Excellent hostel I stayed here in 2004 and had a fantastic time. The staff were generally friendly, the kitchen and sitting room were excellent for meeting other travelers, and transport was very convenient. There are also some excellent and cheap restaurants very nearby. The place has an awesome atmosphere, the staff are absolutely fantastic and really helpful, cheap internet, and cheap phone calls. Good tourist information from the hostel. The rooms are so nice, great decor, really sunny and bright and airy and the cleanest hostel i've stayed in yet. I'm a flashpacker so usually try to stay in the nicest hostel i can find and this definitely exceeded my expectations. The people you meet there are fun and easygoing. The breakfast is reasonably good and very cheap considering they let you make sandwiches to take away. This would be close to hostel perfection except for one thing only -- the mattresses are thin and therefore the beds are uncomfortable. Nice rooms, nice very cool and very helpful staff, nice kitchen, very original hostel with a chapel and a pub inside. It's a little bit far away from the Prague center but the transport system is great and the center its only about ten minutes by tram. I found good to be not so close to the center. A warm, welcoming and friendly staff with great tourist info and knowledge on where to party. The rooms are cheap and the three-bed ensuite room we got was huge! The dorms are also really spacious with a sink and two bathrooms right outside. The kitchen is a great hang-out area to meet other travellers and grab free hot chocolate/tea/coffee after a late night, and there's also a bar downstairs where a buffet breakfast is served (though compared to meals outside, the breakfast is kinda expensive). Definitely go on a tour with Stephen, the resident tour guide in the hostel. It's about 10 minute tram ride out from town centre, but doesn't detract from the place at all.
