Koanui Backpackers & Lodge is located on Main Street in Blenheim and is a realistic ten- to fifteen-minute walk from the bus stop with all your packs as well as ten minutes from the town center area (still closer than other backpackers that are located farther out Main Street). There are two different buildings as part of the complex -- the backpacker and the lodge, which also holds dorm rooms. But both have separate lounges and kitchens and the lounge facilities are newer and thus cost a bit more per night.
All in all the facilities of the backpacker, although older, are perfectly adequate. The kitchen is larger than that of the lodge and -- other than the threatening notes posted that tell you you’ll be kicked out if caught not doing your dishes -- a fairly bright place. The kitchen is well-stocked and the lounge is equipped with Sky TV as well as a free movie library and coin-operated internet terminal. The common patio area that is shared by all visitors has patio furniture and a large grill for guest use.
The reception area offers to help book any tours you may be interested in as well as having bikes for hire. This backpacker/lodge is a great place to hang your hat for a couple nights and explore the culinary and winemaking renowned area of Blenheim.
