The Hostelz.com Review
Station Lodge is located in the former Tulloch railway station buildings. As such, it is located directly next to the railway tracks. It is therefore very convenient to reach when you're traveling by train, but it is also close to the main A86 road.

The Location

When you arrive by train, the entrance to the hostel is not on the side of the railway. Instead, go through the little gate in the fence that runs along the platform and walk around to the other side of the building to find the front door and a warm welcome. The area around Tulloch Station Lodge is great for walking and other outdoor activities. There are ten munros close by ready to be bagged. And you're only thirty minutes by train from Fort William, from where you can explore more of the highlands.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Station Lodge has twenty-four beds -- all bunk beds divided over two eight-person rooms, one six-person room, and one two-person room. The rooms are not very large, and are not provided with locks. Bed linen is provided for free. All rooms are clean and great attention has been paid to the fire protection system.

The showers seem to be new and work well. There's enough room to hang your clothes and enough private space to change back into them after your shower. The sinks and toilets are all in good state too, and sparkling clean. There are enough showers and separate toilets to cater for twenty-four people.

Common Spaces

Station Lodge has a cosy common room, lined with comfy chairs around a fireplace that can be lit. The common room is always pleasantly heated, even in summer. There are plenty of games and books provided to pass the time with. There is no internet connection in this hostel.
In addition, there is a dining room that can seat around twenty people, and where tea and coffee are provided. There is also a kitchen you can use. However, the owners of the hostel, Allan and Belinda, will cook you very good home-cooked meals at very reasonable prices, so we highly recommend having them cook for you. They're friendly and will chat to you while they're cooking, and will make sure you're eating well and enough. Furthermore, when eating the home-cooked meals, you're sure to meet your fellow guests staying in the hostel.

Summary

Tulloch Station Lodge is beautifully and practically located, and we recommend it to anyone who'd like to avoid staying in busy, ugly, spiritless Fort William, or who want to go munro-bagging in this area. Otherwise, it's a quiet area with little to do, and the hostel is a quiet place too. Belinda and Allan will give you a warm welcome, provide plenty of humor, and also cook you good meals.
