The Hostelz.com Review
Glen Nevis Youth Hostel is located in Glen Nevis -- perfect for access to the UK's highest mountain and also Scotland's famous West Highland Way. So if you like walking, this is the place to come.
The Location
It's a few miles from Fort William and located at almost the end of the valley, so you're not near the other centres along the road. This is great if you like a quiet spot; not so great if you want action. Just outside the door is the lovely river Nevis and some great views across farmland towards the mountains.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms and bathrooms are very clean and spacious, although on the rather clinical side with possibly not as much atmosphere as some of the other SHYAs in Scotland.
Common Spaces
At the hostel you receive free bed linen and you can utilise the drying room, the kitchen, and dining room. There's also a lounge with internet (paid), a great place to relax after a long walk although it is a little small. There's also a laundry and dryer, although the queues can be pretty long, particularly after some wet weather, so get in early. If you aren't self-catering, they do offer a continental breakfast, packed breakfast, or packed lunch. The kitchen is incredibly hot and is not well ventilated, but again this is good in cold weather.
Summary
It's an excellent choice for hiking in this part of the world. It can be busy in peak season, so book ahead.

Very nice hostel I stayed at this hostel for two days in September of 2009 [28th/29th]. It was clean/comfortable. And the staff were very nice. The breakfast was not free, but was reasonably priced and quite nice. It was about three miles outside of Fort William, but that was great as far as i was concerned. It was a nice walk there [there is a bus to it as well]. And it was away from the main town so it was peaceful and quiet. Best of all, it was quite literally at the start of the trail that led to the top of Ben Nevis. It was a great hike. But a word of warning. Your boots will be soaking wet by the time you come down Ben Nevis, so bring an extra pair of dry shoes to put on when you get back to the hostel. Overall, a nice place to stay if you want to hike up Ben Nevis. — Pete from Baltimore , USA (2009-10-28)
