HI - Salzburg - Eduard Heinrich Haus Hostel

I think that it depends on which kind of "backpacker" you are. It is not a very good place for socializing, but otherwise it is much more than enough for a good night's sleep and bed and breakfast.

Big, clean, and efficent, but totally impersonal. It's pretty much like staying in a hotel and a real family environment. It was not much fun for us backpackers, and when I was there I had to deal with a whole busload of American students running around screaming.

I happened to meet two Chinese girls (I am from Hong Kong myself) staying here. They claimed that other than the location, nothing was good. They said the rooms were smaller and not clean, the toilets, bathrooms and lockers were outside, you needed to pay an extra fee for lockers, and breakfast was not included in the relatively higher price. So, this writer thinks that it depends for what you're looking for--an easy-to-find place to stash your luggage and sleep for a few hours, or a quiet, lovely place to stay and have some outdoor activities. If it's the former you're looking for, then this is not this hostel for you.

Wonderful establishment with nice surroundings. It has big, clean rooms with good facilities. In the morning, you can even hear the "birds' ensemble" from the wood right next to the hostel. There are free big, locked closets inside the room, and a normal breakfast buffet in a quite nice canteen. Though the choices were limited, the food was sufficient. Beware of the check-in time, as the reception counter is closed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Arrange some sightseeing first, with your luggage left in lockers if you arrive earlier. I would recommend this place to those who are able to ask for directions in German, (the signs were not clear enough, and it was rather hidden from the main road). Apart from its inconvenient location, I would say that it was excellent!
