A real wilderness experience! It's a place of contrasts. The location is fantastic. Isolation, scenery, the wild setting on Rannoch Moor, the wildlife. This hostel holds a special place in my heart -- in spite of the basic facilities. I've visited four times, but none of those are since the hostel was upgraded to have gas cooking and some electricity. Whatever the current state of the facilities, you don't go here for the luxurious living, you go here for the Loch Ossian experience. There are a number of walking options, even for those who aren't bagging Munros. The local Munro is Beinn na Lap, and it's an easy walk from here. Or walk to the shore of Loch Treig, up the hill to the west called William's Peak in some tortured gaelic spelling, or round Loch Ossian which is seven miles on estate track. The renowned former warden Tom Rigg established the Ossian Hour Club for people who managed to run round the loch in under and hour. Hopefully the annals of the club are still there in the hostel. Tom was warden for over twenty years, living alone in this wilderness, and was once featured on a TV documentary about wilderness living. Go -- it's unique!

Loch Ossian hostel is one of those jewels that probably rarely gets visited. Nestled perfectly in the scottish highlands next to a loch.
Stop off atthe Corrour railway station (on way to Fort William) and then its a 30minute walk to the hostel (no cars allowed). Remotenes is perfect with the only train back south to civilisation on the Sunday night at 6pm !
The hostel is total eco friendly, all food has to be carrried in and all rubbish carried out, dry drop toilets, wind powered electricity (oh and no showers)
Probabaly one of the easiest Munros is available from this hostel, and a walk round the loch is nice too.
Hostel very cosy with wood burning stove and 2 dorms.
And as the famous sign in the hostel says...the fridge is next to the microwave in the TV lounge !! Not - this place is awesome !
