The Hostelz.com Review
Aviemore is a lovely Scottish town, and the Aviemore Youth Hostel compliments it quite nicely. The facility is quite large, with ample parking for driving or biking travelers. You'll be able to find the hostel just about five minutes from the centre of town. The hostel is in the middle of a picturesque wooded lot, which really captures the spirit of the countryside.

Reception can be found just to the right of the main door, opposite a nice sitting area with pay internet facilities. You'll find many maps and tourist information pamphlets at the front desk. Just off the main reception area is a large, cozy common room with a pool table and tons of comfortable chairs and couches for lounging. Opposite reception is the dining area, with a massive attached kitchen and dish area, with plenty of grocery storage for long-term guests.

The rooms are a good size, with comfortable bunks. All the rooms are male or female, with an entirely seperate hallway for men and women. Toilet and shower facilities are large and abundant, and well cleaned daily.

A night porter is employed in the evenings to lend assistance to guests if required. All the staff do fantastic jobs keeping the hostel neat and clean -- the facilities are spotless. This hostel is a great way to spend either a night or several weeks.

We stayed here for one miserable night in 2005 while walking the Speysdie Way. Although the hostel was clean and had plenty of facilities for cooking, watching TV, it was not cheap at £14 each and the noisiest place we'd ever stayed. The dorm we were in was next to a toilet/shower which had a door that would only shut by shouldering it, leading to constant banging and wall-quaking vibrations all night. The late curfew meant that guests were coming in late and drunk, making an almighty racket, yet there were no signs telling people to be respectful of others never mind anyone from the front desk asking them to be quiet. Every door in the hostel seemed to be designed to bang shut with the loudest possible noise. After a sleepless night we left early and got the first bus out of Aviemore. All this was made even worse knowing that we had paid only £15 each a few nights before for a lovely b&b where we were very well looked after. You come to expect more from a SHYA property than you get at Aviemore.
