Description
Impressive former shooting lodge in the heart of the Cairngorms National Park; an ideal base for exploring Royal Deeside and the mighty Cairngorms.
Great location for skiing and boarding at Glenshee. Good facilities and a warm welcome make this a popular choice. The hostel offers many homely touches, such as big comfy sofas and a pool table in the lounge, picnic benches and barbecue, and probably the best drying room in Scotland!

They didn't fill up the dorms just because they could, instead they tried for as long as possible to let groups live alone in their dorms. Beautiful house and position. Close to many walks (although car is strongly recommended).

Perhaps you should ask what comments people have about the facility not just what they liked.I arrived at the hostel on the 21st at about 1245hrs and was told in no uncertain terms that registration wasn't until 5pm and was then locked out of the premises. Others who arrived later were in the same boat.On the Saturday I had to leave the premises at 10am and effectively was going to be locked out until late afternoon, I did eventually get them to agree, albeit reluctantly, to let me in after 1pm and sit in the lounge to read my papers. I should state I was doing the TGO Challenge walk across Scotland and was having a rest day in Braemar, hence the reason for hanging around the hostel.Apart from the above everything was fine.

Nice central location in Braemar, no fuss, not a lot of signs telling you what to do, what not to do.

Being able to stay in a room for two persons. The comfort of the lounge. Kitchen facilities were excellent. The location amongst pine trees yet within easy reach of places to eat out was a real bonus.
