Element Riders Place is a backpackers hostel with activities in mind. The person that runs the hostel offers lessons or rentals in kite surfing, paddle boarding, or surfing. The hostel also offers free Wi-Fi for its visitors and gives them a key to their room and gate so they may come and go as they please. The hostel has a very easygoing feel to it, which fits this unique German desert town very well.
Located right in the middle of Lüderitz, it is hard to ask for a better location. The waterfront area is less than a five-minute walk from the hostel. The town itself isn't that large, so you can pretty much walk to any place within Lüderitz in about ten minutes' time. The hostel has several signs leading up to its location, making it very easy to find. For those that are looking to visit the mining ghost town of Kolmanskop (and if you visit Lüderitz it would be absolutely silly not to), the ghost town is about a ten-kilometer drive just outside of town.
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms at Element Riders are very simple, no-frills rooms. There is one dorm room with five beds and the option of adding more. There are also private rooms as well as a room with its own self-catering facilities. The hostel also has a tiny patch of grass where campers can pitch their tent if they wish. There are two bathrooms in the hostel, one located inside and with two showers, and another located outside with one shower. The bathrooms outside are starting to show their age.
Unfortunately, this hostel doesn't have a lot of common spaces. There is a community kitchen with a small table, and the nearby room also has another dining table, but other than that there is no living room for lounging around. There is a good-sized, empty room, which could be used as a living room, although it feels like the hostel is still a work in progress.
As far as hostels go, Element Riders is as good as it gets. It is priced well, located right in the middle of town, and has everything you need short of its own restaurant. With only one other hostel in town, your choices are rather limited.
