HI - YHA Nelson Central Hostel is one of the cleanest you will find ever. It's a great place to stay while you plan/do a tour in Abel Tasman National Park and it's suitable for people of all ages who seek adventure.
The Location
Situated no more than a hundred meters from the bus station, this hostel is centrally located. Since it's close to markets and bars, it is very easy to find and it's fifty meters from a car park (great for those traveling with their own car).
Rooms and Bathrooms
The rooms are quite small, with windows, air conditioning, and free linen. There are no lockers and not enough power points to charge batteries or cell phones. There is a reading light in each bed.
As regards bathrooms, they are perfectly clean, with liquid soap and paper towels. Each shower has a changing area with a bench and some hooks. Hot water is available twenty-four hours and even though there are a few showers and bathrooms it is not a problem at all.
Common Spaces
There's two very well equipped kitchens (lots of space in the fridge and lots of stoves). There are microwaves, toasters, and recycling bins. Everything is very clean. The dining rooms are really big and there is even a place outside with more tables and hammocks, so if the day is nice you can have a great lunch in the garden. The TV room is next to an amazing chill-out area with couches, tables, computers, and two pianos! Laundry and a sauna are also available for a charge. Smoking is forbidden in the building.
You will have to pay if you want to use internet (and there are not many computers available). As with most YHA hostels in New Zealand, it has neither a bar of its own nor activities organized, which is logical since there are not many teenagers in the hostel. The atmosphere is quiet -- ideal if you want to meet people whose objective is to get to know places more than going out every night.

Check-in is at 2 p.m. and checkout at 10 a.m. The staff has excellent knowledge of the options available when it comes to Abel Tasman National Park tours. There is no curfew, but door is closed at 10 p.m. (since reception isn't twenty-four hours) and a door code must be used after that hour.

Excellent hostel It's hard to fault this place. Massive kitchen, dining area and lounge (with a separate, sound-proofed TV room). Clean and decent size rooms. Helpful staff.
