The Hostelz.com Review
Located on the ravishingly beautiful island Martha's Vineyard, HI - Martha's Vineyard perfectly fits into its environment. The hostel gives you the same relaxing feeling the entire island has -- everything seems to be less important and stressed than it is outside the island.
The hostel is located on Edgartown/West Tisbury Road right on the middle of the island next to the airport. It is easy to reach by car as well as by bus or by bike -- there are even signs on the bike paths. But be advised that the bike ride from the hostel to the next town (Edgartown) will take you about forty minutes one way.
The hostel is relatively big and has about seventy beds, a large common room, and a even larger kitchen. The fully equipped kitchen provides everything you need to cook your own food, and the staff does also sell food at the front desk. All you can eat breakfast is also available. The common room includes several couches and chairs, tables, a piano, a wonderful chimney and all kind of games. The bedrooms are clean and the beds are comfortable. They have showers and washrooms next to each bedroom as well as outdoor showers. Outside the hostel there is a lot of space to hang out or chill in the sun, as well as a volleyball field and a bike storage area.
The HI - Hostel Martha's Vineyard is not a party hostel, but probably the most pleasant and cheapest place to stay on this wonderful island and we strongly recommend staying there.

Lovely! I stayed here for a week in April/May and loved this hostel. There weren't many guests since it was the beginning of the season, so I had a huge dorm to myself. Bonus! Loads of room, friendly staff who went above and beyond, and a bike path that loops right round the site. The bathrooms maybe needed a bit of modernising, but they weren't bad. I had a great time here, and definitely wouldn't have been able to afford to come to the Vineyard without it. — Imogen (2006-05-10)

I like it! Comfortable, clean, quiet. Friendly, smiling staff (which is always a big plus). Useful reading room with plenty of tourist info and handy wall maps. The bus stops practically out front of the hostel so you can catch it and go anywhere on the island. Or rent a bike from the hostel. That's the best way to see the island -- up close and personal! — Lynn Lipari (2004-01-08)

I don't have $219 a night to splurge on a B&B, and Oak Bluffs is horribly commercial, unlike the quaintness of the rest of the island. I stayed at this hostel in May 2003. It was very quiet because it rained, but the staff made it a great place to stay...very warm and friendly, and indeed, really clean! — Markham (2003-06-08)

Great layout....super clean and friendly, and the bike path runs practically right through the hostel grounds....you can go for a walk or jog down the path....really sweet! — Toby (2003-02-25)
