A Californian, I've stayed here several times over the past seven or so years, as I've been a regular at the Brimfield autumn and spring flea markets west of Stockbridge. found the hostel in the old yellow hostel directory. it was a lucky find. The house is a real New England circa 1830s white house, in open country at the end of twisting two lane roads -- the property is rustic beyond belief, adjoining the Audubon bird sanctuary. Chet grows hay on the open property and you can visit the cows in the morning. There are literally roaming wild turkeys on the back forty, visible out the back window. The house is filled with old items and curiosities. Check out the classic attic. Chet and Ann are the salt of the earth -- wise, true old time New Englanders whose cosmopolitan side is displayed graciously to the traveler. Back in Los Angeles, images of this unique property haunt me as I sit on the freeway in stopped traffic. A stay at this special place is an experience you'll long remember.
