The Hostelz.com Review
HI - Point Reyes, a wheelchair-accessible hostel, is situated in an very green environment relatively far away from Point Reyes. It is very useful to have a car when going to the hostel because there is no public bus service going to the hostel. If you have a car and a good map it takes you about fifteen minutes from Point Reyes to go to the hostel. It's too far to go there on foot. If you can't find it, ask the old man in the only petrol station in Point Reyes -- he is very gifted in directing you to the hostel.

It's a relatively small hostel with only two rooms -- one for men, the other one for women. There aren't any shared dorms. In each room there are ten beds, but no real wardrobes. Next to the women's dorm you can find a bathroom with two showers and two toilets (only for women). The men also have a separate bathroom with two showers and two toilets right across the hall.

The hostel has an area with sofas and a relatively huge kitchen for everybody's use. The kitchen is fully equipped with a stove and dishes. There is a separate little dinning room with two wooden tables and benches. They also have a little veranda to sit on during warmer months. It is not a super modern hostel, but it's clean.

If you are guest in this hostel you should be prepared to help the staff with its work (including separating and bringing away the rubbish). The hostel is closed from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for cleaning. Office hours are from 7:30 to 10 a.m. and 4:30 to 9:30 p.m. During this time you aren't allowed to stay in the hostel. Also, alcohol is not allowed in the hostel.

From the youth hostel it takes you about twenty minutes to go to the Point Reyes Lighthouse, where in the winter months you can watch grey whales passing by. The location of the hostel is ideal if you like nature and hiking, and if you are lucky you can see elks.

This Hostel was totally awesome! The staff were nice of course until that lady came out only wearing a towel and started yelling at my friends and I for making too much noise. But the dude there was cool and we got to know some interesting people. The view is great with a big window in the common rooms to view it. I would suggest trying to get the bunkhouse because the girls bathroom in the main place just wasn't natural. The kitchen was clean and they provided dishes and stuff. But all together the place felt safe and was great for playing capture the flag.

My friends and I were at the end of a very wet, very cold, three-day backpacking trip when we stumbled upon the hostel. Bob, the manager, was nice enough to let us in, dry off, and get something warm to eat and drink. He also gave us a lift to the visitor center to pick up our ride home (a nightmare of and in itself). Franse (I'm probably not spelling that right, but think the country) was really awesome as well, keeping the tea cups full for us. All in all it was a great positive experience to cap off an otherwise tiresome trip through the National Seashore. I'd recommend to anyone, from anywhere in the world, to come and stay there. The hospitality is great, the scenery is breathtaking, and the environment is casual and welcoming.

This is a great place to stay and relax! There are two housing structures, one of which is the main house. The other structure is separate and it's great for groups. I traveled with a group of high school seniors (I'm one of them) from Sacramento for three days and two nights. The youth hostel was in an excellent location for the hiking that we had to do to collect water samples from different areas. The hostel was calm and remote and a group of about 23 students and four teachers went. Unfortunately there were three extra girls and not enough beds. So three of us slept out on the couches. We slept fine and it was a pretty cool view out the windows as the sun is setting. The couches however, need to be either fixed or replaced. The one next to the stairs that I slept on had the center springs missing and was a little uncomfortable. The weather at this time or year was great and I even went swimming in the ocean. I recommend this hostel to anyone looking to have fun and to enjoy himself or herself. Ps. They provide barbecues, showers, heating, and also pillows and blankets. This place is great! If anybody has any questions you can contact me at poolerbear87@wmconnect.com or poolerbear6@yaoo.com. I would be happy to answer questions about my visit.

This place has a great location, fascinating hiking trails, a gorgeous beach, loads of wildlife, and a lighthouse near by. The house has a rustic ambiance. It was tidy, but it could use some elbow-grease and repairs. We were the first to check in for the day. I selected a lower bunk near a window in the women's dorm, main house, and my friend was in the top bunk. We laid our sleeping bags and pillows out on the bunks, put our ditty bags under our pillows, and went for a walk. When we returned, we found our sleeping bags piled up on a bunk against a far wall near the door. My sleeping bag cover was missing, along with other small toiletry items. Another guest, a woman (about 50) from San Francisco, let all the women in the dorm know that she frequented the location on weekends, and she had moved our belongings. According to her, the bunk I originally selected was reserved for her. She attempted to direct everyone's movements and conversations, including when we could get up in the morning. My friend and I got up at 8 a.m. to take our showers and prepare for a great day of exploring. The woman followed my friend and me into the bathroom and told us we could not take a shower because she wanted to return to sleep, and the sound of the water would disturb her. Another guest in the bathroom was intimidated by her and returned to her bunk. My friend and I gently and quietly put her in her place, and reported the incident to the staff. The staff were nice. We did get to meet some interesting folks from around the works, and had a wonderful visit to the coast of California.

This hostel is just a gem! It's situated in a national park, next to some incredible hiking trails. You're guaranteed to see a plethora of wildlife here. The group house is awesome! It takes a while to get here, but it's well worth it!

A beautiful, quiet refuge from city life. I enjoyed the miles of hiking trails, the gorgeous beach, and lots of birds, deer, and other wildlife along the trails. It has a great kitchen for cooking, and a friendly staff. Great hostel!

VERY NICE! We return to Point Reyes Hostel for a winter Boy Scouts of America overnighter. The area is well suited for hiking on the California Coast. The hostel has two lodges, one is the main one and then an overflow lodge which sleeps about 20, which is where we stay with the group of boys. Very nice accommodations.
