The Hostelz.com Review
The only problem with this hostel is the location: It´s a bit of a bloody hike to get there from, or get to, Penzance´s bus station. The best bet is to get the bus to St. Ives, or any other bus that goes down the Promanade from the bus station, and then get off at Alexandra Road (the Alexandra hotel is about 10 meters up the road, it´s a good landmark to look out for), and then hike up the road until you get to the hostel. It´s on the left side, about 3 blocks or so up, so it takes about 5 to 10 minutes to get there. If you walk it, go by via the prom again, but it will take the better part of 30 minutes.

That said, the distance is well worth the luxury. This is the Ritz compared to many other hostels. It has nice fluffy matresses and blankets, proper pillows, carpeted floors, a living room with a big comfy couch and TV, and a massive kitchen with plenty of cooking supplies (including spices and some basic dry goods like rice).

The dorm rooms are pretty spacious. There´s enough room between the bunks to allow for packs and movement, and each room has its own ensuite bathroom with shower, sink, and toilet. There are also washrooms in the corridor, which is terrific because then you don´t have to worry about a line forming.

The place is immaculate, they have the cleaning gear out every day, and it really shows. This is one place where you don´t have to worry if you left the shower sandals behind!

There´s also laundry, and a phone if you have a phone card. This place could really benefit from having internet, either free or pay, because you´ll otherwise spend a while trying to find a place for access. You´ll also want to bring groceries, because it´s a bit of a distance from anywhere with a cheap breakfast.

Otherwise, it´s just great, the staff are really friendly and helpful.

5  Great place, helpful people This is a great place to stay; the rooms (& bathrooms) are clean, quiet, and its really great value for money. It is in a great location -- although you have to find the shortcuts, the sea is the end of the road as well as the bus to lands end. The staff (or owners?) is great, I needed some help and they were really very accommodating. I am happy to recommend this place to anyone, and would stay there again if in Cornwall.  ()
4  Great Place PZ Backpackers is a good place to stay and great for the price of £15 per night. You will struggle to find a better hostel anywhere near it. Good facilities include a nice lounge and kitchen with plenty of space. Although it has bunk beds, they are pretty solid and dont creak -- a great bonus in shared dorms. It's only ten minutes walk from the centre of town and all the bus routes out. The staff are very professional and very knowledgeable on local transport, tourist sites, places to eat and drink. I would, and will, recommend it to anyone heading down to that beautiful part of the country.  , British ()
4  Clean and friendly We stayed two nights, the first in a shared dorm, the second in a double room. Only thing I would say about the shared dorm is that the beds were very creaky and the other residents weren't that considerate noisewise, but that's par for the course in a shared dorm! The beds were comfortable, and everywhere was clean. Good kitchen facilities, and free tea and coffee. We had a sink in our room, and used the shared shower room on the corridor which was immaculately clean and had a decent shower in it. Staff were very friendly and chatty, and let us log on to their wireless network with our laptop. Would come again, but only if could book a double room -- well worth the extra £1 each!  , England ()
5  It provides a very cozy environment. Helpful staff member and quiet environment. Good value for the money. Highly recommend all budget travelers to stay here if you plan to visit Penzance. If there's two of you, I'd recommend you spent a couple of pounds more for the double room.  , Taiwan ()
4  This hostel was easy to find, about twenty minutes' walk along seafront and the hostel owners were really nice and friendly and happy to chat. Kitchen had good facilities and the sitting room was very spacious. I was a little surprised that the big garden was not open to guests and there were no tea making facilities after 11 p.m. The rooms were packed with beds (six to nine, I think) but they were of good quality -- did not wobble much and there were some single beds available in the dorms and all beds had reading lamps. This was a quiet hostel and not very sociable but that is down to the guests not the hostel itself. I think this is a good choice of accommodation for the facilities and location but the town is a little boring which lets the hostel down.  , British (Devon, I travel far!) ()
4  This was a perfectly nice hostel (the first I've stayed in). Rates were good, owners were super nice, and the other occupants were friendly (lots of schoolkids on holiday). The only problems were the incredible wait for laundry (have to wake up really early to beat the kids to it) and the mile or so walk from the bus/train station (though you do get to see quite a bit of penzance on that walk!).  ()
1  I'll start with the positive -- there were beds and they were comfy. However no sooner had we paid our money than "a feisty little bastard" -- who I believe is the owner of the place -- came down and said we had woken him up by being too noisy, at 7 p.m.! We were not whispering but we were not noisy by any stretch of the imagination. A hen party in Penzance but not wild (until later anyway). Said little feisty bastard insisted we all leave and started counting out the money to return to us saying that they did not cater for such parties. A few days earlier, when I was making the reservation, I had explicitly told them our reason for staying in Penzance to be told "that sounds like fun," no hint of the unwelcome situation we would find ourselves in. It was only through a lot of diplomacy on my part that we were allowed to stay. Safe to say I will not be staying there again.  ()
5  great hostel, good atmosphere. also good help and advice what to do and see in and around penzance. you also get bustimetables and maps if you ask. also info about the nightlife, bars and pubs. rooms are nice and big. nice kitchen table to sit around and make new friends.  ()
3  This was not as great as the comments let me think. I stayed there one night in Sept. 05. The location is close to the promenade, but a 15 to 20 minute walk from the city center and station. Breakfast is not included in the price. It has small rooms and bathroom. The hostel, anyway, was quiet. The really good thing is the price, 28 pounds for a double room (14 each), which is nowhere else to be found in Britain.  ()
5  This is one of the coziest hostels I've been to! Friendly staff, nice community and communal area, excellent location, clean and en suite dorms, and relaxed atmosphere. Anything a backpacker's heart would desire!  ()
5  Excellent hostel. The manager was really nice and helpful. It has friendly people, and it was clean. It had decent bathrooms, and a great kitchen and common room. I'd go back.  ()
5  This hostel is excellent for the price you pay, and also location- wise!!! I will surely be staying here again!!  ()
