great backpackers. located well for a surf and the bars! it was very busy in august but the place was always being cleaned! friendly peeps and you dont need your own toaster! great vibe, real homey, and value for money. we shall be back!

Wicked!
Had a wicked time staying in this place. Met cool people and the staff there were a nice, friendly bunch of people! It's not a five-star accommodation but you cant expect it to be for its cheap prices and it doesnt really matter anyway because with good company and welcoming, friendly atmosphere thats all you need really. I recommend it to anyone up for a good time!

Not that great!
Me and my friend stayed here for a week and we were so disappointed! The staff are very friendly except one lady, but the place was an absolute dive! we didn't expect anything fancy for the price but we expected it to be clean and it was far from that! The shared shower and toilet was absolutely disgusting and we took it upon ourselves to disinfect it ourselves as it was apparent the staff wouldn't do it. The rooms were nice but again filthy and disinfected it ourselves! the pillows, mattresses, duvets were all absolutely disgusting and the kitchen. i wouldn't let a rat eat in there! We refused breakfast and drinks and bought our own kettle and toaster on our first day and made the best of a terrible situation! also, there was trouble on the one night with a group that were very rude and we went downstairs at 4 a.m. to ask what was going on and the owner walked past us with a member of staff and left the other residents to answer our questions! the atmosphere is great overall and you are left to your own devices, which is great, but it needs a bloody good clean and possible a health and safety examination!

Absolutely awesome weekend!
Staff very friendly, relaxed atmosphere, and really welcoming! If you ever needed anything there was always someone around to help you out. Rooms small but clean, and really cute bar with a lounge area. Drinks cheap too! Really enjoyable stay -- recommend it!

I really enjoyed my stay at this surf lodge. wicked and friendly staff made very welcome. the quality of the lodge is that of a hotel -- you get more than you think. the views from the top floor were amazing. the room was just right for me and my friends. i would certainly recommend matt's surf lodge for anyone visiting newquay for the first time. i am definitely coming back next year -- i would hate not to.

It was a wickid place staff were well friendly, def no five star hotel, but what you expect from a surf lodge. It was great and its only stuck up ppl who wouldnt like it there.

This place was great!!! The people were awesome and there was a really friendly atmosphere. We're going back next year!!

We had the time of our lives here! With so many people staying here it would have been hard not to make so many friends. It has a cool atmosphere. Prime location for beaches and clubs! We went last year and are going back this summer. The fair-enough rooms are basic, but when all you need is a bed and a shower you can't complain for the price.

If you wish to have a holiday from hell then this is the place to go. I was absolutely disgusted with the state of our room, if you can call it a room. I think these people need to know how to decorate and clean before offering a place to stay to others. These people must be used to living in a pigsty. I would advise anyone NOT to go here, unless you want to stay in a pigsty.

This was a sh*t hole. All they do is smoke drugs all day, and for the most expensive room they had I would have rather spent my weekend in a shed.

This was an awesome stay and whoever says it's not is mad!!! Me and my mate had a wicked time and would definitely go back!!! And there are a lot of fittys [attractive people] here!!! Love it.

This hostel stinks. There is a really bad atmosphere and the staff are totally unfriendly. Find somewhere else to stay if you want a good holiday.

This place was terrible. Informal? It's a complete crap hole. If you are looking for a holiday with staff that just don't care, stay here.

I hate that place. It looks like a prison, and the prison staff steal from you, I think. Do not go there, EVER!!!

This place is whack. The staff are unfriendly, and they complained about the littlest noise. Don't stay here, it will ruin your holiday, unless you like unfriendly staff, who incidentally will take any deposit, and dirty sheets, mattresses and showers!!
