The Hostelz.com Review
Reminiscent of an old farmhouse, this hostel located in the rainforest near Volcano National Park offers a homey feel and quiet ambience. The kitchen is definitely the meeting place, with a huge old wooden table and plenty of cooking facilities. A world map located here lets you place a pin marking where you are from -- the map is littered with pins from around the globe.

It's clean and affordable, and within walking distance from the Hele-On bus stop. Holo Holo Inn offers free internet, free coffee, and hot cocoa, hot showers, and 16 beds. The owner works during the day, so check-in is after 4:30 pm. Holo Holo Inn is a member of Hostelling International.

At night you may hear faint music coming from the old Japanese schoolhouse next door where couples are practicing traditional dances -- it just adds to the ambience.

Hostelz.com Guest Reviews
4  I stayed here in August 2006. I had my own room which was very clean and comfortable with a good shower. The hostel itself was very quiet with not much evidence of other travelers. There was a big kitchen and free internet (though rather basic). The Volcano Village is a good base for exploring the Volcanoes National Park, even if, like me you're travelling without a car (there is a bus service or you can hitch). It's only a mile or so to the main park entrance and there is a side entrance that is even closer. The park has loads of great hiking and I was amazed how easy it was to escape the crowds if you walk any distance at all along the paths -- it seems most people don't like walking very far from their cars. There are a couple of general stores and three restaurants in town. I went to the Thai restaurant three times because the food was so good.  ()
4  I thought you should know this place is no longer affiliated with HI. It's a nice place though!  ()
5  Very clean environment. The staff were very helpful. It's in a great location, very secluded and a five-minute drive from the entrance to the Volcanoes National Park.  ()
5  This is one of the best hostels I've ever stayed in.  ()
5  A friend and I stayed at this hostel in October. The dorm was clean and there were enough blankets available for the cold nights! The kitchen is also clean and well kept. Parking is not a problem. We enjoyed our stay very much. We recommend this hostel!  ()
5  My husband and I have stayed here several times. We have always felt quite comfortable here. Once we checked in when no one was staying but us, and we were invited to use the owner's personal sauna. This was delightful. We also pooled food with him and his guests, and had a lovely dinner. This usually doesn't happen, but in Hawaii, anything can happen. We will be staying here again in September of this year. It is a place we go back to when we go to the Big Island.  ()
4  I stayed there some time ago with my husband and adult son, and we really liked it! The private room we had was large and clean, and so is the kitchen. The owner is friendly, and the other hostlers were nice to talk to and felt the same way about the place as we did. The lockout did not bother us. After all, when in Hawaii one has other things to do than sit in a hostel all day long! It's a little bit hard to find, but persistency pays off! We recommend it!!!  ()
