A wonderfully scenic, hospitable, and historical experience. This hostel, on an ironworking plantation active from the 1820s to 1890s and somewhat isolated for motorists, is a real asset for hikers along busy sections of the AT -- which it straddles -- and a jewel all should appreciate. It's a friendly, orderly, clean, and well-looked-after property located within several converging state parks and forests not far from Harrisburg and Carlisle -- and Gettysburg -- within a major Eastern north-south/east-west highway junction and heritage tourism complex. Ease of access to its peaceful and bucolic mountain surroundings forms its greatest attraction. Very good times, good value, for hikers, families, individual travelers.

Excellent Donna is a wonderful caretaker! Had an excellent stay at IMYH during my hike. The false floor in the first floor closet was unbelievable. Thank you Donna so much for your generosity and hospitality. Hikers are lucky to have you at the IMYH. Hope to see you again!

Excellent hostel with an extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff person. It's a huge old mansion -- tons of character. The kitchen is in terrific shape. I've been there twice and both times met fascinating people while cooking meals. Really, one of the nicest hostels I've stayed at in all of the U.S.A. (and I've stayed in a lot).

The place isn't being care for and it shows! Paint is peeling and the paint is chipped a lot of places. The large front porch is slowly falling apart. Again, peeing paint and lack of upkeep. No one seem to care. The place is dirty and unkempt except when a guest does the work! Go and enjoy your stay. Someday soon this hostel will turn into a giant flophouse!

Extremely nice hostess. She is well informed about the mansion and area. This is not your typical hostel.

I stayed here recently. Friendly host. Pleasant, peaceful area. It's an ok place to stay. It's a hostel, not the Hilton. But for the price, it beats sleeping in a tent.
