The Hostelz.com Review
This hostel is very laid-back, surrounded by lots of vegetation. It is one of the properties in a quiet residential neighborhood, comprised of several rather old buildings. One newer building has private rooms and houses Japanese exchange students. This is where the clean and comfortable TV room is located.
The other buildings are rather old and the owner, a knowledgeable friendly old lady, lives on the ground floor of the building that houses the men's dormitory. The bathrooms are alright and fairly clean. The women's dorm is nicer than the men's. There are a number of insects around the buildings due to the vegetation around this location.
The hostel does not use keys, but there are lockers in each room that can be used with your own lock.
There is no internet, but there is free internet access at the university library across University Avenue, about 500m from the hostel. Waikiki is about a 30min walk from the hostel. Or take bus number 4 from the corner of University Ave. and Metcalf St.
No drinking and no visitors are allowed in the hostel, but there is a cheap pub a ten minute walk from the hostel on University Ave. and King St. It has about 40 beers from around the world on tap and the crowd is mostly students, pitchers are 5 dollars.

Nice place This is a nice hostel. I had a car, so could get around the island easily. They only have two parking spaces, but luckily I always got one, street parking is an option. The women in my room were both very respectable. I never worried about my belongings. Locked up the ones I did. This was an easy hostel to stay at, no chaos, nice patio, but no internet. Staff was friendly and helpful too. — Anonymous , California, USA (2010-04-22)

Beautiful surroundings, very helpful, friendly staff. Quite a way from the beach but only $2 on the bus to get there, they're not as frequent as people would have you believe though. Lovely place to stay, very peaceful and laid back. — Cass (2007-02-17)

This hostel is a quiet little retreat away from the bustle of Waikiki beach. It's clean, with no bugs in the rooms and friendly staff. Much recommended! — Pauline (2005-02-28)

This hostel is clean, quiet, and friendly. The staff know the area well and are very good at helping you enjoy Hawaii, especially if you're on a budget. :-) — Chris (2005-01-26)

I love this hostel...away from the touristy waikiki, but just a short bus ride away from the beach...great hiking in the area, and very friendly owners! — sophie (2003-02-25)
