The Hostelz.com Review
HI - Turgeon Intl Hostel - Regina Hostel seems just fine. We were by far the youngest guests there during our stay -- the other hostel guests were elderly (one chap seemed to be well into his eighties). Most likely though this is an oddity because there was a craftshow in town for traveling craftsmen and the like. This seems to be a fairly social hostel with legitimate backpackers for the most part.

The Location

The location is decent enough -- considering Regina's general size, it is not hard to walk to most places in the central core quickly anyway. It's roughly a ten-minute walk from the bus station, five minutes to the museum, and one to ten minutes to a variety of decent places to eat. The area itself is totally safe as well. There are few worries for lone females walking home from the bar at night. People seem to be quite friendly.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms are all adequate -- singles, doubles, and dorms are all available here. The dorms have some bunk beds and some basic fold-down beds. Lockers are available on the main floor. Bathrooms are a floor below and showers (of basic quality) are in the basement. Either way, everything is relatively clean and reasonable.

Common Spaces

Also located in the basement is a laundry room and the fairly large common area and kitchen. The kitchen is fully equipped and the common area sports a TV with cable, couches, and tables and chairs. Upstairs there is a pile of travel accessories you never realized you needed for sale next to the reception desk. Also just after the main entrance on the right is a library with hundreds of books (mainly regarding travel) and a fairly ancient computer with free internet access.

Summary

This place might not be a travelers' dream paradise, but it is ultimately fine. The staff are friendly and there are plenty of nice hostelers around to befriend. We'd go back.

4  Decent place to spend the night This basic hostel is converted from an old Victorian house, so it seems a bit more worn then other hostels I've stayed in. The location is right downtown with two-hour street parking directly in front, but you can park all night until 10 a.m. The rooms and beds are clean but there were a few strange noises during the night from creaky pipes (I hope!) There is a TV and a kitchen in the basement and lockers are available but costs $1/day unlike other places that are free. The wireless internet is fast and free, and there is a computer available if you don't have your own. I only stayed the night while driving through town so I don't know what is in the area, but the lobby has a listing of places to eat and drink. The desk closes at 10 pm, so if you need to check in later phone ahead! My main criteria is cleanliness and this meets that standard. I would stay here again.  , USA ()
2  Tried to stay here in Jan. 2007 but it had closed for the season (contrary to reports that it's open year-round). Disappointing. Will be opening up in mid-Feb again (apparently).  ()
4  I stayed here in May of 2002. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hostel itself is clean and well-maintained. It is a quiet place--there were less than five people staying at the hostel when I was here. It is an excellent value, and since you practically have the place to yourself I recommend staying here over staying in a hotel in Regina!  ()
