Very disappointed Dirty rooms and bathroom. We stayed in a private room and were told that we would share the bathroom with the next room guests. Not true. Everyone had access to it. Prepare to pay $7/person for a half-hour in the hot tub. We were not informed of this charge at the time we made the reservation. Bring your towels because they will charge 50 cents for a very thin, not so clean looking towel.
Staff was friendlier over the phone, not so much in person. No hot water to take a shower either. I would not recommend it at all.

Stayed there back in May 2005. Nice place to stay at. Free wireless internet was good to look for places to see on a given day.

The grounds of this hostel are spectacular! BEST feature being a hot tub on the cliffs overlooking the ocean. The staff is warm and welcoming and the nearby attractions make this stop a must on the California coast adventure.
I arrived for my first stay and checked in without a reservation, but it was a weekday and I found on my next visit the necessity of making reservations especially on the weekend. They entertain school groups for teaching and costal exploration as well as being open to single travelers, couples, and families.
Both of my visits I stayed in dorm rooms that had six bunk beds and an attached bathroom. Beds and bathrooms are typical camp style accommodations that are clean and adequate. As always, the "peace and quiet" factor depended on housemates. Kitchens were adequately stocked and clean. . Pescadero the nearest town has a cool little general store, restaurant and tavern nearby to buy supplies and was fun to explore.
Nearby attractions include numerous beaches, state parks and small towns with unique costal character. It is a must drive situation since it is located on Hwy. 1 and public transportation is not an option.
I went twice in March of 2005 and found this a great season, the weather was great and I caught the migration of both elephant seals and monarch butterflies nearby. A short drive either north(Half Moon Bay) or south (Santa Cruz) gets you to cool beach towns with nightlife, fine dining, or family activities.
Don't hesitate, go now, go often…I would if I could! Maybe I will see you there!

This was my first hostelling experience, and it was very enjoyable. There is lots to do in the area, including having a pleasant meal at Duarte's in Pescadero, walking along the coast, checking out dozens of tidal pools, and being in the hot tub right next to the ocean at night watching the clouds roll in to hide the stars. The walls are thin, however, and those departing at 6 a.m. can do little to keep their noise from disturbing those wishing to sleep in. All in all, it was an extremely pleasant experience that I will be enjoying again in the future! The staff were very friendly, and the other patrons all seemed to be very nice people. It was a great environment for a relaxing evening!

I had a great little getaway at this hostel. The kitchen is well equipped and the hot tub rocks! Aside from the loud snoring lady in the bunk next to me, it was all I could ask for.

Fabulous experience. This hostel has beautiful surroundings. Don't miss the hot tub at sunset. The place is also environmentally responsible, with a sincere, friendly, and down-to-earth staff. There is an abundance of sea life--both at the nearby tidepools and off the deck. It's a great environment for reflection and inspiration.

The bathrooms were gross--no doors on the stalls. Yuck.

I was very impressed by the lighthouse here. The hostel itself is impressive as well - nice staff, very clean rooms. I would definitely stay here again. Lots of nature stuff to do around the area, too!

I had a very enjoyable stay, but I think somebody needs to be notified about all of the dead jellyfish (Velvelle) that have been beached just below on the beach. This is a well documented phenomenon but none the less only occurs as a result of storms and as each of the curious creatures has "a row of stingers underneath" it would behove somebody to warn beach goers. Oddly enough the latin name of this little spineless entity means "little bell" and as you are currently looking for the missing ships bell (pigeon type) is a coincidence. Again, since this situation does not always occur (like the red tide or grungeon fish running) the general public way not be aware (especially children) that these attractive blue things are in effect poisonous like many jelly fish.
