I will just go ahead and list the good and bad about the YMCA hotel. The good: 1. Friendly staff 2. Close to everything in S.F 3. They have a parking space The bad: 1. The rooms are small. 2. No fresh air - the cigarette and weed stench is unbearable. 3. The bathrooms stink. 4. The gym facilities are out of date 5. The hotel is dark, dirty and gritty. 6. The neighborhood is nasty-I mean it's really bad. 7. The complimentary breakfast sucks. I mean those muffins are terrible. 8. No cable tv. I recommend that you try somewhere else.

I stayed in this hostel during an internship in San Francisco and I must say it was terrible!!! It is dark, stinky and in the worst area of S.F. (police cars at least twice a night, drug dealing on the street at day, homeless people, junkies, gangs and garbage everywhere). I had a mouse in my room and went down to the hotel desk just to hear the staff say they would the management about it and that they couldn't do anything at the moment. A week before I left (I stayed three months here) somebody sent me to the manager and he said that he never heard of this mouse! He, too, told me that he would do everything he could to keep the mouse of my room, but not now and maybe tomorrow. Nothing happened. The other thing is the heating. It can be very cold on autumn nights and the American windows are not the best insulated. So, by the end of October it was unbearably cold in my room. I went down to the desk (again) and — right, nothing happened. I was freezing, but nobody cared. I thought I would pay rent for sleeping in a quiet, comfortable place that was warm and without mice. So, if you like quiet, comfortable, warm rooms without mice, stay out of this YMCA!!!

All the areas in this hostel, except the rooms and living area, are disgusting. The rooms are quite small and uncomfortable. You should also watch out for the smoking level or the 7th floor above it. The cigarette stench can be unbearable sometimes. The neighborhood is also a shady area. I wouldn't recommend staying at the YMCA. You need to search this Web site for better options.

The place is dirty. The bathrooms stink and are quite filthy. The rooms are small, tight and uncomfortable. Moreover, it 's difficult to enjoy constant fresh air without smelling second-hand smoke and 420, i.e. dope, from any room on any floor. This is because there is a smoking floor filled with chain smokers and 420 college junkies. In addition, there is no access to cable television, and the wireless Internet hardly works. There's more! The exercise facilities are old, clunky and out of date. The pool is sometimes cold and has too much chlorine to make up for high usage. Lastly, beware of the neighborhood. If you want to stay in the San Francisco downtown area, I recommend that you look into the resident hotels in the Nob Hill area of San Francisco.

For what you pay, nothing is wrong with this place. It has clean rooms and a friendly staff. Okay, the area is not exactly squeaky clean, but this isn't Disneyland, thank God! Go for it, experience it all, and see how the poor sods have to live, then go home and appreciate your home towns. It could be boring after this!!!

It was disgusting, smaller, like a cage. It was dirty, the people were incompetent, and they locked my credit card. They offer the room for US$55, but they added a lot of stuff, like electricity. There was a "complimentary breakfast," but they charged it to you so how is that complimentary? You can get a regular hotel for the same price with a real room, real bathroom and a real complimentary breakfast. Don't waste your money here, believe me.

I've stayed here a few times. The area is kind of scary at night, but the price is right, and you can use the gym facilities. The steamroom rocked, if you catch my drift.

Nice hotel, friendly staff, very clean, nice views. But beware this is a DODGY area - especially at night.

Both the dorm rooms and the single rooms are very clean. Guests have free use of the gym, pool, steamroom and sauna.
