Hostelz.com's Review
If you are looking for a super chilled and relaxed vibe in Playa El Tunco without too many people hanging around, you will find that Makoi Hostal is your place.

The Location

Makoi Hostal is located a one-minute walk from the beach, in a prime location. While it is not in the heart of all of the main restaurant and shops, it only takes around five minutes' walk to get there. You will find Makoi snuggled in off a gravel side road off the main street heading toward the second highway exit.

Rooms and Bathrooms

There is one dorm room here and it has five beds, all of which are super comfortable; the room is set out in a way that is spacious with fans to keep it cool in the evenings while you are sleeping. There is a private bathroom here with an amazing cold shower. Both the bathroom and the bedroom are cleaned regularly and it is a really relaxed environment to stay in. They also have private rooms on the second and third floors of the house.

Common Spaces

There is a kitchen on the second floor of the house that is the guest kitchen. You can cook all of your meals here if you choose to or keep food in the fridge here; they also supply drinking water. Off the balcony, they have a breakfast bar around the kitchen, a couple of chairs and a table, a sofa, and a hammock hanging off the balcony to lounge around out of the sun and with fellow hostel goers.

There is also a large garden with chairs and tables as you enter the hostel and you can hang out under the palm tree in the garden if that suits your fancy too.

Summary

The owners of Makoi Hostal are really friendly people. They live in the bottom floor of the house so are often found around the place and have an abundance of information about things to do in the area and how to get around. The hostel does meals for a cost if you would prefer to eat in here instead of venturing out and about and they also have drinks and baked goods for sale over the counter that they cook themselves.
