Hostelz.com's Review
If you're looking to spend a few days in Surfers Paradise, Budds In Surfers is a bit cheaper than the others, and there's still a pool and hammocks for relaxing.

The Location

Unfortunately, the shuttle bus does not meet all the Greyhound buses, so if you arrive after the shuttle hours (6 p.m.), you're walking to the hostel. It is close to the beach, however, and an easy walk into the CBD if you don't have to carry your luggage. It's a short walk to the nearby shops and supermarket.

Rooms and Bathrooms

Rooms are very small and cramped. The bunk beds are very wobbly, and with only one floor fan in the room, they are rather stuffy and can get very hot. The addition of another ceiling fan would make a huge difference during the warmer months. There are lockers in the room.

Bathrooms are communal and not gender specific, and though they aren't terribly dirty, they aren't always the cleanest since there's so many people using them all the time. Showers have a small shelf and hooks for clothes and things, and are in a separate room to the toilet so you don't have to wait for one when you want the other.

Common Spaces

The kitchen is very small and poorly ventilated, so when everyone is cooking, it gets very hot in there. You have to get dishes from reception, and they're plastic. There are plenty of places to sit and eat, with outdoor picnic tables and benches. Free breakfast in the morning is nice and basic, just cereal and toast. There's lots of drinking games in the evenings, however the hostel will soon be licensed so that may change some.

There is a TV and couches inside for those rainy days or if you want to chill inside, along with some pool tables and computers you can use, for a small fee. There is an outdoor pool and lounge chairs where a lot of people hang out. Also, there's some hammocks that are in good condition.

Summary

If you're looking for an average hostel with a chill vibe during the day and a party scene at night, then this is the place. Lots of guests extend their stay here at Budds, so it's one of those places where you either stay awhile or move on quickly.
