Hostelz.com's Review
Hostel Colours is a clean, colourful hotel. It is a relatively fun place, but not filled with party-goers.

The Location

The hostel is on the outskirts of town. It should take at least forty-five minutes to one hour to reach the center by foot. The metro station Lambrate FS is very close (exit on via Pacini). Central station is four stops away, and the castle eight stops away. You would need to change lines to go to other parts of the center. The hostel is on a quiet street.

Rooms and Bathrooms

The rooms are spacious in comparison to the number of beds. There is a table and a chair. Lockers would fit the kind of luggage that an airline would accept as hand luggage, but not much more. It only takes small padlocks, and you should bring your own. Otherwise, you can buy one at the front desk for two euros. The beds are relatively good for bunk beds; they don't move too much and don't make too much noise.

The organization is not very good, as they don't assign people a specific bed, so they never know which bed they have to clean. You'd better leave something on the bed, so they know it's occupied, otherwise, they would change the sheets and someone may think it's a free bed and take it. It seems to be happening a lot. During our four-night stay, it happened twice. They also put people in the wrong room twice.

The private bathrooms are quite spacious, clean, and nice. There is a bidet in it (as in most everywhere in Italy, it seems).

Common Spaces

The common spaces are very large. There is a bar, with a very limited offer (beer, wine, coke, water). There are also machines to buy food and drinks. Breakfast is taken in the dining room next to it, there you can use a fridge, microwave, small oven, toaster, or electric kettle. Breakfast is coffee, milk, yogurt, cereals, juice, bread, cake, pie, croissants, jam, and chocolate cream; not exactly the same every day, but the choice is large. Overall, though, it is not very good.

There is also a place where they sometimes put a television. Above it and above the dining room are two mezzanines. One is cosy and old fashioned; the other one has an improvised ping-pong table, a computer, and a TV with a game console. Wi-Fi is only accessible in the common area. They don't have any real luggage room, so if needed, you will have to leave your luggage under a staircase in the common room.

Summary

Overall, this is a very good hostel. The main problem is that it is a bit far from the center, but few hostels are very central in Milan.

4   Good atmosphere The hostel had a good atmosphere and great common area. Only think I wasn't happy about was turning the air conditioning off for a few hours on the night, got extremely hot.  , age 23, USA ()
