Hostelz.com's Review
Nashville Downtown Hostel is a great, social place to stay just seconds from all the Nashville action.

The Location

The hostel is located on First Ave. and is just around the corner from Broadway Ave., which is home to a lot of Nashville’s Honky Tonks as well as the Country Music Hall of Fame and many other shops and restaurants. The Greyhound station is about a mile away, so you can walk, take a taxi, or take the free Music City Circuit Bus. Parking is provided by the hostel in an adjacent outside parking lot -- there is a per-day charge plus a deposit.

Rooms and Bathrooms

At the hostel you have the option of staying in dorm rooms or private rooms, all of which are located on the fourth floor and accessed by elevator. All of the rooms are also named after a person or place of Nashville. Dorm rooms are available in four-, six-, and eight-bed rooms and are quite spacious, although the mattresses are covered in a plastic cover, which tends to make a bit of noise, plus the bed frames are not particularly solid. Dorm rooms also lack lockers and just have a metal shelf to provide some bag storage. Also some rooms had a window that you could see through from the main hallways which would reduce privacy in the rooms.

Bathrooms are split up into separate sexes with many showers and toilets as well as a few separate disability-access bathrooms with shower and bathroom in them. The showers here could be improved, as the lack of water pressure does not make for easy showering and there needs to be more than just a shower curtain (it does not provide for easy changing). Also the bathrooms need to be cleaned and checked more overnight, as there was no toilet paper in some stalls for more than twelve hours during our stay.

The access to most areas is also pretty secure, as you need a card to access the elevator, the entrance into the room floor, and all common areas at different time, which can also become a little annoying to get around at times.

Common Spaces

The main common room is on the ground floor with kitchen, lounge areas, computers laundry and reception in one large open space. This is a great area for meeting other travelers. There is also a quiet area on the fourth room level with books and chairs. Wi-Fi is provided for free throughout the hostel as well.

Just be aware there are a lot of rules that you have to follow and agree to before you can stay here (including no hard liquor, no hand washing of clothes).

5   Great hostel This is a great hostel. One of the best hostels I have stayed in.  , age 28 ()
5   Walk to Everywhere from Here 30+ years of Hosteling and this is the best I have ever stayed at. Clean & Comfortable with a GREAT staff and best of all We walked to everything at all hours of the day & night. We arrived at 9am and were able to leave our luggage so that we could walk around Nashville before getting our room at 1pm. Staff was very helpful, friendly and informative. My only complaint ... this is the 1st hostel that I have every stayed in where you have to rent towels, usually they are included in the price (Yes I know a $1 isn't much but it is the point) and they really need to explain the Quiet Area to everyone who checks in because I had to explain it at 3am to a group who thought it meant that loud conversation that didn't involve drinking WAS being quiet. I think this is a very FAMILY friendly place also.  , age 57, USA ()
4   Nice place, but a bit discombobulated Arrived late after long day of driving, happy to learn they provide $12 parking pass. When we finally got to our 4 person bunk room, our beds had already been slept in so they brought new sheets but it took an hour from arrival to our heads hitting the pillow, which was precious time. Free coffee in the a.m. Was nice. Best part was the location! Right near the river and broadway street which was packed even on a Wednesday night. Glad we stayed here for our first and only might in Nashville.  , age 24, Usa ()

A really good atmosphere, friendly & informal staff, optimum location at an unbeatable price. bathrooms easily accessed and clean, interesting decor, comfy enough bunk bed, designated quiet reading areas & party inclined general living area.  , age 25, australia ()
