Wouldn't Return -- Terrible service from the night staff Stayed in both a double and a dorm here, the double was nice (double bed, table and chairs, fridge, sink and wardrobe) although there was a little ant problem and the air conditioning sounded like it might blow up! The dorm however -- well we opted to sleep on the sofas in the reception, rather than the dorm room which smelt terribly. I would put this down to the present guests though (who seemed to be living there long-term) so the other dorms could have been better. The kitchen was too small for the number of guests and there was no-where to eat inside if it was raining. Bathrooms were clean however in half of the building the hot water seems to be off so you have to go over to the other side for a hot shower which isn't very convenient. Even if we had like the hostel the experience would have definitely been ruined by our final experience and the night staff. We booked a shuttle bus the airport as we has a 5.20am flight to catch -- I booked the bus the day before and paid a deposit I also checked a number of times that the bus was booked and would arrive at the time stated to which i was reassured. However the bus never showed up! Which was, it turned out after having to phone the company, because the bus driver had slept in!! The night staff seemed to find this all very amusing and didn't seem to understand that we had a plane to catch. We ended up having to order a taxi. When i asked for my deposit back the night manager practically laughed in my face and said i could not have it and that I would have to "come back tomorrow." I couldn't believe it, I did point out that I was going to the airport and therefore would not be in Cairns tomorrow but he just said it again! The day time staff had been very pleasant and helpful so I was even more shocked by this behaviour from the night manager. — Anonymous , Britain (2011-12-14)

Amazing This hostel is wicked, you can take your own booze into the rooms unlike a lot of hostels around cairns where they have a no alcohol policy. The staff are very friendly and are always up for partying and showing you the best places to go out. They also helped me plan my travels down the east coast and gave me lots of tips and advice. I'd strongly recommend this hostel to anyone! — Amelia , English (2009-03-04)

Fantastic! If you want to stay in a clean and friendly hostel with a vibrant atmosphere I would recommend Njoy! — Thomas , UK (2009-02-04)

Welcoming, friendly, funtastic! This hostel is one of the cleanest i have stayed in in whole of australia. The staff know their stuff and booked all my tours for me down the east coast. There's a really relaxed vibe here and the staff know how to have fun and get the guests involved. i will be staying here again very soon! — Nathanial , South African (2009-01-12)

Excellent! This hostel is great for backpackers with extremely friendly staff. I loved it so much that I ended up staying for two weeks before traveling down the East Coast. If the bad weather wasn't hitting in January then I imagine our stay would have been a lot longer. There isn't a bar at Njoy, which is great -- so you are allowed to bring your own alcohol in, which makes your stay even cheaper. The kitchen was kept clean at all times and our bed was extremely comfortable. I can honestly say that I haven't a bad word to say about this hostel! You will have a great time! — Lisa Riordan & Paul Swann , UK (2008-12-11)

Clean, price okay, staff so-so, no wireless internet in rooms Relative price: Good -- One of the cheaper places in Cairns. Hygiene: Good -- Very clean room, average bathrooms. Beds: Average -- Thick mattress, relatively new. Staff: Below average -- Friendly when it comes to booking, not so helpful when there is a problem. Location: Average -- About a five minute walk to the Esplanade and about 15 minutes walk to downtown. This hostel sits right next to a major street with lots of traffic. Noise: Good -- The rooms are mostly in the back part of the hostel away from the street. The walls are fairly thick. Internet: Wireless did not work when I visited and according to staff only works in the lobby area, which is not air conditioned. They charge for access, about $3 per hour. Terminals are older computers. Other: Comfortable rooms, relatively clean, staff is ok, location not the greatest, no wireless internet in the rooms. — Pete , England (2008-12-04)
Grumpy staff Watch out for the staff here! A couple of the guys were ok, but I don't think the girls have heard the phrase "a smile goes a long way." Room was fine, if a little welcoming of beasties, due to a gap between wall and a/c unit. Great communal area and films every night for all to watch. Avoid the kitchen if you can. — Jen O , Scotland (2008-09-10)
Is it really for backpackers? I couldn't even book a night in that backpacker because they only allow it if you have a credit card. They don't seem to know that having a credit card in an Australian bank is quite difficult when you are only staying one year. And they don't make any effort to find a solution to this problem. Not welcoming at all. — Nicolas , France (2008-07-28)

Fantastic value! This was a great place to spend a couple weeks while in Cairns. The staff was super friendly and very helpful with booking tours, rooms were clean, and the pool was really nice! A really chilled, relaxed place to spend some time soaking up the sun. Highly recommended! — Tamara , Canada (2007-12-18)

Very chilled and clean. Friendly staff, great pool! It was a quiet backpackers, so we could go out to party all night and sleep afterwards. The staff are very friendly and helpful. The twenty-four-hour internet was good for messenger with my friends at home. One of the cleanest backpackers I stayed at! I miss Australia, I can't wait to go back there! — Peter , German (2007-09-03)
