An incredibly inexpensive and comfortable retreat
I found Mary's to exceed expectations. I was treated with incredible friendliness and really felt less like a guest than a visiting relative. The house itself was pristine, and all necessities were on-hand and convenient. The owners also have ensured elements of Mary's to be environmentally friendly. This is a perfect place to spend the night while seeing an amazing little town. I can't recommend this guesthouse highly enough.

This hostel was wonderful. It was clean, in a great location and convenient to everything in the lovely little village of "Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania." The owners were more than helpful, friendly, and very accommodating. I will go back here again. I did not leave enough time because I had no idea how lovely and historical the village was!

It certainly is a nice place, with great amenities for the price. I have to say, though, that the owners must have figured out how this all works by now (late July). The hosts tried to help us have a great visit and were almost overly helpful, but they must be getting more used to people coming through. They offered lots of local info and recommendations, and they were interested in how things went after our days' adventures. They even broke out a bottle of wine one night for a nice evening on the patio. We hope everyone else who comes gets the same feeling we did. It is a nice place in a great town.

This guest house boasts cleanliness like no other, real beds (not bunks), a good price, and great perks and accommodations, including a very nice kitchen area, and an outdoor porch with a BBQ. It's hard to believe that the owners consider this a hostel! The amenities are more than you can imagine for the price: they are comparable to a B&B. The town is very nice, full of shops, restaurants, museums, and outdoor activities galore. However, be forewarned about the lack of parking and the sheriff who tickets tourists regularly. If you are outdoor enthusiasts like us, you would LOVE this place. The town is amazingly situated in a river gorge in a section of the Pocono mountain range. There is a lot of history behind its location. You feel as though you are very far from the rest of the world, although large towns are only 10 to 15 minutes away (but they aren't in sight!) The only bad thing about this hostel is that a strange couple owns it: they are young, but odd. Actually, it is really the male co-owner who is a bit paranoid about the hostel. The woman is very nice. My husband and I both thought that this was because the place is new (we stayed there in May and it had just opened in April) and the owner feels as though he doesn't have much business yet, and is scared of the whole hostelling concept (people coming and going, and not staying there for a long period of time, and him not knowing them or being able to trust them). It seems as though the couple prefers it if their guests come to stay just in the town and not to pass through. Because the male co-owner is very untrusting towards his guests, we felt like he was intruding during our stay, and this couldn't help but limit the enjoyment of our time spent at the beautiful house and town. All in all, if you stay clear of the male co-owner (however, I am not sure how you could manage that!), then you will be sure to have a great stay, whether you are a couple, a group, or an individual.
