I stayed here for one night and it was not so good. The dorms are tiy, you cannot swing a cat in there, air con didn't really work, so everybody was boiling in that room. Bathrooms were filthy, but okay if you wear flip flops. The TV lounge is really poor, it's located in an old garage, just next to the carpark and unless you're wearing a gasmask, you're very likely to end up with some serious lung problems...... At least there is a free courtesy bus into town, since the place is a bit outside and a long walking distance from the city.

This place is okay. It's not very expensive and offers quite a few things. The Bar and the pool are sweet, but the dorms are bad. They smell disgustingly and it seems, like the linen never see a washing mashine from the inside... Staff is friendly and helpful though and the free shuttle bus makes up for the long distance to Downtown. A good place to stay after arriving from the airport, since there is a free pick-up, but definitely not for partying.

This is the best hostel I stayed at in Australia. Was meant to stay for a few weeks and stayed at the Beach House for five months! The staff are great, the atmosphere is amazing and the accommodation is clean, safe and comfortable! It is a little out of town, but that never stopped us from going out to town! There is a great courtesy bus and it's a flat road into town where you can walk along the sea front. The Beach House is the place to stay for fun and laughter in Cairns.

Mud. Absolute junk. Booked one month in advance, arrived, and they had lost our booking completely. They then fixed us up with a jail cell (they called it a room) which was only accessible by walking through someone elses' room. The 'room' and general environment was not clean or welcoming. The place was nothing like the pictures on the website. Staff were not helpful either, and appeared to be more interested in smoking weed and hugging trees than helping anyone. But perhaps the MOST annoying part was the fact that the place is a few kilometers from the Cairns city centre (where all the good hostels and interesting places are located). The map on the website is misleading. It makes the hostel appear to be close to the city, when in fact it is not. So unless you enjoy walking, or sitting around for lengthy periods of time waiting for the 'courtesy' bus, be prepared to fork out some dollars for a taxi to the city and back. And forget about staying out late at night, because you will have to walk/stumble back to the hostel or fork out some more dollars again for a taxi, and then you will be forced to test your athletic skills by trying to sneak through another persons' room in the dark, without waking them, and attempting to dodge through their scattered belongings to get to your room. To sum up in a few words, DO NOT STAY HERE.

I came to stay here for one month and ended up staying four. It's a fantastic hostel. The staff are great, and it has a fun party atmosphere. There is always something happening in the bar, and games every evening, like quizzes, bingo, killer pool etc. But of course in the bar you can make up your own drinking games if you want! It's definitely a place to make some good friends.

Awesome hostel--great atmosphere, friendly staff, decent-sized clean rooms and no bloody bunk beds! It's a little bit out of town, but there's a free shuttle bus, and their tour desk is excellent.
